7 Years After a Life-Changing Fire, Foster Child Finds His Forever Home
|Deyvion was just a baby when a fire tore through the apartment where he was sleeping. Firefighters managed to rescue him, but he suffered severe burns on his face.
It was a miracle that Deyvion survived. This tough little boy from Missouri started his recovery at a special burns unit, fighting his way back to health.
Deyvion went through this challenging journey without a family by his side. It wasn’t until he was 5 years old that he became the foster child of Beth Plunkett, a single mother of two.
“I thought he was a beautiful little boy, and I fell in love with him very quickly,” Beth said.
Beth added, “Everyone says he’s so lucky to have me, but I feel just as lucky to have him.”
After spending 2,545 days without a permanent family, Deyvion was finally adopted by Beth.
“I want him to be happy, to always feel loved, and to achieve his goals,” Beth said. “I know he will do amazing things because God has a great plan for him.”
Now, Deyvion not only has his new mom and siblings to love him, but the firefighters who saved him think he’s very special too.
Deputy Chief Eric Smith from the South Metro Fire Department in Raymore and his team still remember the night they rescued Deyvion.
On his adoption day, Smith and his crew gave Deyvion a special jacket and hat and gave him and Beth a ride in their fire truck to the courthouse for the adoption ceremony.
Smith praised Deyvion, saying, “He’s extremely special. We don’t always understand why things happen, but now we do.”
Deyvion’s story is a heartwarming reminder of love and resilience. He’s a brave little boy who truly deserves all the happiness in the world.
