Inside Judge Greg Mathis’ Son’s Dream Beach Wedding — Exclusive Photos of Rings, Cake, and More

After years of love and a journey shared openly with everyone, Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliott Cooper said “I do” in a small, intimate ceremony. With only close family around them, they made their big day feel like a “dream come true.”

Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliott Cooper’s wedding was a warm and emotional celebration held on the beautiful, sunny shores of Cabo San Lucas.

Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliott Cooper said “I do” in an intimate ceremony on October 21 at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria. They were surrounded by only 15 close family members in a special, private setting.

The 5-star hotel was a loving haven for Greg Jr., 35, and Elliott, 49, who wore custom high-waisted suits. Greg Jr. chose a classic navy blue suit, while Elliott wore a purple suit to honor his late mother, who passed away during his college years due to lupus.

The style was timeless, just as Greg Jr. imagined. He shared, “We both wanted something classic, but with our own flair and style.”

The couple met through mutual friends on Valentine’s Day in 2016. As they exchanged vows, Broadway singer Kyle Freeman performed Luther Vandross’ “Here and Now,” setting a joyous mood for the occasion.

When the reception began, the grooms changed into second outfits to continue celebrating with family. The beach-themed decor, arranged by planner Andrew Roby, turned the shore into a stunning, elegant space.

They picked a dark palette of purple, navy, and black with yellow accents for a bold yet peaceful vibe. But the celebration isn’t over; the couple plans to host a larger ceremony in Los Angeles next year, focusing on creating lasting family memories.

Since coming out publicly in 2022 on the show Mathis Family Matters, family has been at the heart of Greg Jr. and Elliott’s bond. Elliott shared, “Family has been central to our relationship from the start.”

Cabo San Lucas was a fitting setting for their wedding, holding personal meaning as the destination of their first trip as a couple. This Mexican paradise has since become one of their favorite vacation spots. “We love the beach…and the natural beauty here,” Elliott explained.

Before the wedding, they hosted a welcome dinner at Nobu Los Cabos. During the ceremony, both of their fathers officiated, an idea Greg Jr. had to make the day even more meaningful.

After eight years together, the couple marked their latest anniversary in February—the month they first met. Greg Jr. shared their anniversary online with heartfelt words, celebrating the journey they’ve shared.

They announced their engagement on Instagram in July, posting photos of their joyful moment. Greg Jr. explained, “For years, we weren’t sure we’d ever formally marry.”

While they always knew they wanted to be lifelong partners, marriage had seemed distant. However, as a couple in the LGBTQ+ community, they realized how much it meant to have a wedding that represented their love and commitment. They see their union as a meaningful example for others, especially young people who may need role models like them.

Elliott proposed to Greg Jr. at Republique, a French-themed restaurant in Los Angeles that felt like “a little piece of Paris.” The restaurant reminded them of trips to Paris, where they first felt comfortable being affectionate in public.

Under the guise of attending the 2023 Los Angeles Walk to End Lupus event, their family and friends were invited to what turned out to be a surprise proposal.

Reflecting on the proposal, Greg Jr. said their loved ones were so thrilled they couldn’t even finish dinner. Now, the newlyweds are looking forward to a honeymoon, possibly in Bora Bora. They’re also excited to continue building a life together, and Greg Jr. shared his enthusiasm, saying, “The ‘Mathis-Coopers’ are going to have so much more joy ahead.”
