Grandma Cuts Grandson Out of Will—Leaves Him Only a Mysterious Bible and a Heart-Wrenching Note
|Mike’s grandmother passed away after a big fight between them, leaving him with only a Bible and a note. Upset and angry, Mike tossed the book into his closet and didn’t think about it again. Years later, he found the Bible in a moment of desperation as he searched for ways to help his mother, and what he discovered inside shocked him.
“Wow…,” Mike whispered as he looked at his mother’s latest medical bill and quickly closed his laptop. The bill was huge, and even with health insurance, they still owed a large amount. Money was tight, and they didn’t have many savings left. Mike couldn’t help but think of his grandmother, Grace, with some bitterness.
Mike’s grandmother, Grace, passed away after a big argument six years ago. She wanted Mike to go to church one day, but he refused because he had plans with friends. He was only 18 and just wanted to have fun. Grace insisted, but Mike said no, and their conversation turned into a fight. They never spoke again, and she died not long after.
When Grace’s will was read, Mike was stunned to learn she left everything to her church, including her big house. They’d had a close relationship, especially after Mike’s dad passed away, and he could have used the money and house to avoid paying rent. Instead, all he received was a Bible and a note: “Open it when it’s hard.” Mike felt hurt and angry, thinking Grace was punishing him for not going to church that day.
Years passed, and now his mother, Kaila, was sick and needed expensive treatments. Mike’s savings were gone, he started a GoFundMe, and even applied for a loan, but was denied since he had nothing valuable to offer as collateral. He was desperate and remembered that Bible buried somewhere in his closet.
“Times are hard now. I guess I should open it and read some passages,” he thought, getting up from his desk and digging through his closet. He found the Bible and opened it to the first page, where he’d tucked Grace’s note. “Open it when it’s hard…” he read out loud, shaking his head. “You silly, old lady. I loved you, and you were so petty.”
Then he noticed something odd about the Bible that he hadn’t seen years ago. Some of the pages seemed thicker, as if something was hidden between them. Curious, he turned a page and found two $100 bills. As he kept flipping, he discovered more money hidden throughout the book. There were thousands of dollars inside! Shocked, Mike laid the bills on his bed and began to cry.
“Oh God, Grandma! Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you say something before passing? I’m sorry for resenting you all these years,” he whispered, looking back on their relationship with a new understanding.
As a child, he had been raised Catholic, going to church with Grace and even joining the choir for a while. But like many teens, he lost interest and wanted to stop. Grace always talked about God, Jesus, and religious stories, but Mike got tired of it. Now, though, he remembered those talks fondly and felt a deep regret over their fight.
He realized that Grace’s gift was her way of teaching him patience and humility. The money was more than enough for his mother’s treatment, and he rushed to tell her the good news. When he explained what Grace had done, Kaila laughed, saying, “That sounds just like her. She was wise, but a little odd at times.” Kaila apologized for needing so much of the money, suggesting that maybe they could sell something instead.
“No, Mom,” Mike insisted, holding her hand. “This money is for you entirely. Grandma told me to open the Bible when times got tough. This is her gift to you.”
After Kaila recovered, she and Mike began attending church together on Sundays. Mike wasn’t as devout as Grace, but he went to give thanks for his grandmother’s hidden gift. Sometimes, he would ask her to pass along his gratitude to any higher power out there.
