Hero on the Field: Chiefs’ Tershawn Wharton Saves Young Fan During Panthers Game

The Kansas City Chiefs’ player Tershawn Wharton acted quickly to save a young fan from falling after their game against the Carolina Panthers. Wharton plans to invite the boy to a Chiefs game soon.

On November 24, 2024, fans gathered at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, hoping for a chance to interact with players. While the Chiefs were leaving the field, an alarming incident unfolded when a young boy slipped over the edge of the elevated stands.

A video shared online shows Chiefs players walking past fans as they waved. Suddenly, the boy lost his balance and started to fall. Wharton instantly reached out and caught him, stopping a potentially serious accident. With the help of a security guard, he lifted the child back onto the stands, ensuring his safety.

Before the fall, a security guard was seen warning the boy and others to stay away from the railings. The guard repeatedly asked them not to lean over or push each other, but the warnings were ignored, leading to the near-tragic moment.

When interviewed on the “Pat McAfee Show,” Wharton explained that catching the boy was instinctive. He said he heard his name being called and then saw the child falling. “I just reacted naturally,” he shared, adding that he pushed the boy back into the stands to soften his landing.

Wharton mentioned that the security guards were distracted and didn’t notice the fall, so he acted immediately to prevent harm. He grabbed the boy’s back to stop him from hitting the ground.

Although he hasn’t reconnected with the boy yet, Wharton expressed a desire to meet him again. He plans to invite the child to a Chiefs game so they can share a memorable experience together.

Now in his fifth season with the Chiefs, Wharton has been a reliable part of the team since joining in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. His determination and effort have made him a key player in the NFL.

The Chiefs won the game against the Panthers in a close 30-27 match. This victory marked their 10th consecutive season with double-digit wins, a record-setting achievement in the Super Bowl era.
