The Killer of Bride Samantha Miller Gets Maximum Sentence – Full Story!
|The husband of Samantha Miller Hutchinson, Aric, shared his pain after his wife was killed on their wedding day. The woman responsible for the crash, Jamie Lee Komoroski, was sentenced in court the same day.
Samantha, 34, died on April 28, 2023, when Jamie crashed into a golf cart carrying Samantha, Aric, and two members of Aric’s family. Investigators revealed Jamie was driving at 65 mph when the crash occurred. The family was on Folly Beach, South Carolina, heading back to their rental home at around 10 p.m.
Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced Jamie to 25 years in prison after she pled guilty to several charges. These included felony DUI, reckless homicide, and DUI causing great bodily injury or death. The charges carry different sentences, but since they are concurrent, Jamie will serve a total of 25 years.
After the sentencing, Aric shared his feelings, saying, “I feel like the punishment fits the crime. I think she’s sorry, but that doesn’t change the fact that Sam’s not here.” He added that the loss of his wife and the injuries to his family would take time to heal.
Before the trial, both Aric and Samantha’s relatives spoke to the court. Benjamin Garrett, who was driving the golf cart, expressed his guilt for not completing his task to safely escort the newlyweds. He said, “I believe Sam saved us. It’s who she is, she would have taken one for all of us.” Jamie also spoke, taking full responsibility for the crash.
On the same day of Jamie’s sentencing, Aric spoke emotionally in court. He shared the heartbreak of losing his wife hours after promising to protect her. “It’s something no one should ever go through,” he said through tears. He recalled how Samantha had told him she didn’t want the night to end, and after kissing her goodnight, he woke up in the hospital.
Following the accident, Aric’s mother, Annette Hutchinson, created a GoFundMe page to help cover the burial costs and medical expenses. She shared how Aric was severely injured, requiring multiple surgeries, and had a long recovery ahead. Annette also shared how Aric was handed his wedding ring in a plastic bag hours after the crash, a painful reminder of his loss.
Annette provided updates on the health of Aric and other injured family members. She shared that Aric had been in the ICU and had to return to the hospital twice due to pain. Benjamin was hospitalized for eleven days but eventually returned to Utah once he was well enough to travel.
A family member also created another GoFundMe page in memory of Samantha. Mandi Jenkins shared how Samantha was full of life and love. “Sam Miller was pure love,” Mandi wrote, remembering her friend’s ability to make anyone smile. She described how fearless Samantha was, especially on her wedding day, when she was excited to start her life with Aric.
The GoFundMe pages and heartfelt posts on social media helped raise funds for Samantha’s family. Samantha’s loved ones, including her parents and friends, expressed their grief and honored her memory. Samantha’s life was celebrated through photos and videos from her wedding and other special moments shared with Aric and their family.
Our deepest condolences go out to Aric, Samantha’s family, and everyone who knew her. We hope they find comfort as they continue to grieve such a heartbreaking loss. Rest in peace, Samantha.
