I Got Stuck in an Elevator with My Ex-Husband and His New Girlfriend on Valentine’s Day and It Revealed His True Colors
|On Valentine’s Day, I never imagined I’d end up stuck in an elevator with my ex-husband and his much younger girlfriend. Tension filled the small space, secrets came out, and one shocking truth changed everything. By the time the doors opened, I realized something important—this was the best Valentine’s Day gift I could have received.

On Valentine’s Day, I was busy making the holiday special for everyone else.
I worked as a hotel administrator, which meant solving problems, handling complaints, and making sure everything ran smoothly.
Like everywhere else on holidays, our hotel was in chaos. Every room was full, the restaurant was packed, and people were practically begging for last-minute reservations.
In the middle of all this, Rick, our head chef, walked up to me. He had always been a little flirty, but I had never taken him seriously—until now.
“What’s wrong? Everything okay?” I asked. He looked tired but not stressed.

“Everything’s fine,” he said, rolling his shoulders. “Lots of orders, but my team is handling it.”
“Then why aren’t you in the kitchen?” I asked.
He hesitated. “I wanted to ask you something.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Ask me what?”
Rick leaned in slightly. “If you don’t have plans after work, how about I cook us dinner? We can celebrate Valentine’s Day together.”
I blinked. “Are you flirting with me?”
“I’ve been flirting for a while,” he said, smirking. “Glad you finally noticed.”
I hesitated. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
Rick nodded. “If you change your mind, I’ll be waiting.” Then, he walked back to the kitchen.
I sighed, rubbing my forehead. It wasn’t that I didn’t like Rick—something about him intrigued me, even when I tried to ignore it.

He was confident, funny, and kind. But my heart was still stuck in the past. My divorce was fresh, and I wasn’t sure I had made the right choice.
Mike had cheated—that was a fact. That’s why I left. But I kept second-guessing myself.
Had I been too harsh? Should I have given him another chance? People make mistakes.
Maybe I walked away too soon. Maybe I let my anger drown out my heart.
I sighed again, the ache in my chest growing stronger. I needed to clear my mind.

I walked toward the elevator, pressed the button, and stepped inside. My thoughts were spinning when the doors slid open again.
I froze.
Mike stood there, smiling, his arm around a young woman. She had bright eyes, flawless skin, and that carefree energy only college students have.
My stomach dropped.
Mike and the woman stepped inside, laughing together. She held a huge bouquet of red roses and white lilies like a trophy.
She looked up at him with admiration, while he smirked as if he had won some kind of prize.
“Didn’t expect to see you here,” Mike said casually.
I folded my arms. “You didn’t expect to see me at the hotel where I work?”
Mike chuckled and pulled the woman closer. “This is Sandy, my girlfriend,” he said proudly.
I forced a polite smile. “Karen. Nice to meet you,” I said.

Sandy’s face lit up. “Oh! You’re Karen. Mike told me about you,” she said, nodding like we shared some secret.
I raised an eyebrow. “Did he?”
Sandy twirled her hair. “Yeah, he said you were still kind of… attached.”
I scoffed, but before I could respond, she turned back to Mike. “Babe, will you buy me lobster tonight?”
“Of course, for you, anything—” Mike started, but before he could finish, the elevator suddenly jerked to a stop. The lights went out.
Sandy shrieked. “What’s happening?”
Mike’s voice was tense. “What’s going on?”
I grabbed my radio. “Earl, the elevator just stopped. What’s happening?”
Static crackled before Earl answered, “The power’s out in the area. You’re stuck for at least an hour or two.”
Sandy groaned. “You mean we’re trapped?”
I sighed. “Looks like it.”
A second later, the lights flickered back on.
Sandy crossed her arms. “I can’t believe we’re stuck in an elevator on Valentine’s Day.”
I let out a dry laugh. “I never thought I’d be trapped in here with my ex-husband and his new girlfriend.”
Sandy shrugged. “Well, at least you didn’t have any plans tonight.”
Mike smirked. “Hey, not everyone is as lucky as we are. Some people just can’t find a partner.”
My stomach twisted. “Maybe I could have if my ex-husband hadn’t cheated on me,” I shot back.

Mike sighed. “It was only once.”
I clenched my jaw. “Once was enough.”
Sandy smiled sweetly and kissed Mike’s cheek. “Well, at least now he’s happier with me.”
I scoffed. “Give him a few more years, and he could be your father.”
Sandy lifted her chin. “Love has no age.”
I smirked. “Then you should learn the signs of a heart attack. That might come in handy soon.”
Mike groaned. “Karen, stop. You’re just jealous.”
I laughed. “Jealous?”
He nodded smugly. “You regret losing me, and now you’re bitter because I moved on.”
I stared at him, barely believing what I was hearing.
Mike grinned. “If I can get a girl like Sandy, that proves I’m better than most men.”
I rolled my eyes. “Right. A real catch.”
Our argument grew louder. Mike kept throwing out insults, and I fired back, my frustration boiling over.
Then, Sandy’s voice cut through the shouting.
“Enough! Both of you, stop!” she yelled. “I’m not his girlfriend, okay?”
I blinked. “What?”
Mike turned to her, his jaw tight. “Shut up,” he hissed.
Sandy rolled her eyes. “This is disgusting. You’re playing with her feelings like it’s a game. You’re a jerk.”
I frowned. “I don’t understand.”
Sandy sighed. “I’m not his girlfriend. I’m a dancer.”
“A dancer?” I asked.
“At a club,” she clarified.
It clicked. “You mean a strip club?”
Sandy shrugged. “Yep. And Mike’s been a regular for years. Even when he was married.”
I sucked in a breath. My stomach twisted.
Mike’s face darkened. “We had a deal!” he snapped.

Sandy crossed her arms. “I won’t let another woman feel crazy over a guy who doesn’t deserve her.”
I let out a laugh, shaking my head. “You paid her to pretend to be your girlfriend?”
“He wanted to make you jealous,” Sandy said. “Do you really think it was a coincidence we came to this hotel?”
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered.
“Karen, I can explain,” Mike said.
I held up a hand. “No need. I actually considered taking you back. But thank you for showing me exactly who you are.”
Mike’s face twisted in frustration. “We can still fix this.”
“So you can cheat again?” I asked.
Mike ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe we could have an open relationship.”
I burst out laughing. “You’re pathetic.”
At that moment, the elevator jolted back to life.
When the doors opened, I stepped out without hesitation. Mike moved to follow, but Sandy smirked and pressed the button, sealing him inside.
I nodded at her in gratitude.
As I walked away, I clicked my radio. “Hey, Rick. I changed my mind about dinner.”
A pause. Then Rick’s surprised voice. “Really?”
I smiled. “It’s Valentine’s Day. Love deserves a chance.”
