Keeping Her Pregnancy a Secret
Becoming parents at such a young age was a huge challenge. April and Nathan met at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales. Their teenage romance took an unexpected turn when April discovered she was pregnant just one day before her 14th birthday.

She kept the news to herself at first because she felt “too embarrassed” to tell her parents. When she finally did, it was a huge shock for both families. Nathan’s parents were angry at first, with his father, Ron, saying, “I had a real go at him and told him he had been stupid. But we can’t undo what has happened.”

Despite the initial anger, both families eventually supported the young couple. April’s mother, Maria, said, “It was a big shock at first, but we let April decide what she wanted to do.”

A Difficult Start for Jamie
Jamie was born in November 2010 through a cesarean section, weighing 8lbs 14oz. He had a medical issue that made feeding difficult, but doctors performed surgery, and after 11 days in the hospital, he was healthy enough to go home.

At just four weeks old, Jamie was already in the media spotlight. He lived with April at her parents’ home, sharing a room with her 17-year-old sister, Robyn, who helped care for him. Nathan lived a few miles away with his own family.

Navigating Parenthood
Despite the unusual circumstances, April was determined to be a great mother. “Jamie wasn’t planned, but I’m going to give him everything he ever wants,” she said.

At first, it was unclear how April and Nathan would co-parent. Nathan suggested having Jamie on weekends while April had him during the week. But their relationship was already on shaky ground. April admitted they were going through a “cooling-off period” and wasn’t sure if they would stay together.

Moving Forward
By 2014, April revealed that she and Nathan had broken up. “We’re not really in contact, and I don’t want to be,” she said. “When I first had Jamie, I hoped we might stay together, but I have no regrets.”

April had planned to continue her education, but she never took her final exams. Instead, she focused on raising Jamie. “I’m not in school or working, just looking after Jamie,” she shared at the time. “Everything is going amazingly with him.”

Her family remained supportive, and she considered returning to school when Jamie got older. “I might go to college and take some exams later,” she said. “I’m not planning on having another baby anytime soon.”

Where Are They Now?
Today, April’s life has changed a lot. She is now a proud mother of three—Jamie Rhys, Rowan David, and Ava Lianne. At 28, she goes by April Lianna and is in a happy relationship with her partner, Jake Jones.

Nathan has also moved on. In February 2023, he got engaged to his partner, Samantha, and has built his own family with several children.

Overcoming Challenges
Teen pregnancy brings many struggles, from judgment to financial difficulties. But despite their early challenges, April and Nathan have built happy, stable lives.

Both have stayed involved in Jamie’s life, supporting him as he grows. Their journey proves that, with determination and support, it is possible to overcome obstacles and find happiness. Wishing them all the best for the future!
