My Fiancé and I Took a Lie Detector Test at Our Wedding—It Destroyed Everything

I always thought my wedding day would be the happiest day of my life. Instead, it became unforgettable for a reason I never expected. My sister, Melissa, brought a lie detector to my wedding and turned it into a nightmare.

My name is Harlene, and I’m a 28-year-old teacher. Until recently, I thought I had the perfect life. My fiancé, Mark, and I had been together for five wonderful years, planning a future full of love and happiness. But that dream shattered the moment Melissa revealed the truth.

Mark and I met through a mutual friend five years ago, and from the start, it felt like we were meant for each other.

Mark was kind and caring, always respectful toward everyone. What I loved most about him was how he would go out of his way to help others.

We became inseparable quickly. Weekends were spent exploring restaurants, binge-watching sitcoms, and dreaming about our future together.

“Har,” he’d tease with a grin, “if it weren’t for your cooking, I’d probably starve.”

“Good thing I like feeding you,” I’d laugh, watching him finish another plate of lasagna.

Mark worked as a software developer. His job often kept him busy, but I didn’t mind. I admired his dedication and supported him fully.

Meanwhile, I loved my job as a teacher. My students brought joy to my days, and I cherished every moment in the classroom.

When we decided to get married, we wanted the wedding to reflect our love and joy. “Let’s make it a celebration no one will forget,” Mark said one evening while we planned.

“Definitely,” I agreed. “How about some fun games to get everyone involved?”

“Great idea!” he said, his eyes lighting up. We even asked Melissa for suggestions, but she didn’t seem very interested.

“Whatever you decide is fine,” she said with a shrug.

Mark and I poured our hearts into every detail, from the playlist to the decorations. We were so excited to create a day that everyone would enjoy.

“This will be the best day of our lives,” Mark said, squeezing my hand.

“I can’t wait,” I replied, smiling.

But the wedding day turned out to be nothing like we imagined.

The big day finally arrived, and I was filled with excitement. As I stood in front of the mirror, I couldn’t stop smiling. It was everything I had dreamed of.

At the venue, the energy was amazing. Guests were laughing, chatting, and enjoying the celebration we had planned.

Mark greeted me at the entrance with a kiss. “You look stunning, Har,” he said, admiration in his voice.

“And you look handsome,” I replied, smiling back at him.

Everything was perfect until Melissa grabbed the microphone.

“Alright, everyone!” she called out. “I have a surprise for the happy couple! It’s going to be so much fun!”

I froze. What surprise? Melissa hadn’t mentioned anything to me.

She waved to someone, and they rolled in a machine with wires and sensors. “It’s a lie detector!” Melissa announced. “I thought it’d be hilarious to play this game at the wedding.”

“What?” I asked, confused.

“Trust me,” Melissa said with a grin. “It’ll be fun.”

Mark shrugged. “Why not? Let’s do it.”

At first, the game was lighthearted. Melissa asked silly questions, like whether Mark had eaten the last slice of pizza or if I had watched a show without him. The guests laughed as we answered.

Then Uncle Sam stepped up, his face unusually serious. “Mark,” he said, “did you ever cheat on my niece?”

The room went silent. My heart pounded as I stared at Uncle Sam in shock.

“That’s ridiculous,” Mark said, laughing nervously. “I don’t need to answer that.”

But Uncle Sam insisted. “If you’ve got nothing to hide, just answer.”

“Mark,” I said softly. “It’s just a game. Let’s move on.”

Mark looked defensive. “This is insulting,” he said. But his reaction made me uneasy. Something felt wrong.

“Mark,” I said again, “just answer.”

Finally, he sighed. “No, I haven’t cheated,” he said.

The technician looked at the results. “That’s a lie,” he said.

The room erupted in gasps. I couldn’t believe it.

“Who?” I asked. “Who did you cheat on me with?”

Mark stayed silent. Then I noticed Melissa avoiding my gaze. A horrible thought hit me.

“Was it her?” I asked, pointing at Melissa. “Did you cheat on me with my sister?”

Mark didn’t respond. Then, after a long pause, he said, “Yes.”

The truth was confirmed, and the room fell silent. My mind raced as I looked at Mark, then at Melissa, who was crying.

Uncle Sam spoke up. “I wasn’t going to say anything today, but I saw them together a few weeks ago. They were holding hands at the mall.”

His words confirmed my worst fears. I turned to Melissa. “Why?” I asked, barely able to speak. “How could you do this to me?”

“Harlene, I’m sorry,” she whispered, tears streaming down her face.

I turned to Mark. “You didn’t just betray me—you destroyed everything we built.”

Mark looked down. “I made a mistake,” he muttered.

But cheating wasn’t just a mistake. It was a choice—a choice I could never forgive.

I ripped off the wires and walked out, leaving behind Mark, Melissa, and the wedding that would never happen.

Some betrayals are too deep to heal. This was one of them.
