19-Year-Old College Student Tragically Found Dead in Colorado Park After Mysterious Disappearance
19-year-old Dallas Roberts, a college student, was reported missing on October 28, 2024, after disappearing inside the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado.
He was missing for almost a week before his body was discovered. Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard confirmed the tragic news.
Dallas Roberts, a 19-year-old from Montrose, Colorado, was found dead after going missing on October 28, 2024, in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. His cause of death has not been released. Dallas was last seen near the park, about 12 miles from Montrose and 65 miles from Gunnison, Colorado.
On October 30, the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office posted a missing person report on social media, describing Dallas as 5’11” tall, weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. They asked anyone with information to contact the authorities.
During the search, the National Park Service informed the police that Dallas had driven through the park entrance in a truck. His vehicle was later found about 150 feet down a steep hill, surrounded by thick brush.
A cadaver dog was brought in to help search, and a few days later, officials discovered a sweater about half a mile from the crash site, which was later confirmed by his family as Dallas’s. Drones were used to search the area, and Dallas’s body was found 200 feet down a cliff in the sagebrush.
Sheriff Gene Lillard called the incident “an absolute tragedy.” Rescuers used ropes and pulleys to retrieve Dallas’s body from the canyon. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is known for its steep, rugged terrain, which made the recovery efforts challenging.
Dallas’s family expressed their deep gratitude to the rescue teams and the community for their support during this difficult time. They described Dallas as a kind and compassionate person who inspired those around him with his faith, love for his family, and dedication to his goals.
Born in Greeley, Colorado, on March 25, 2005, Dallas had a love for music and craftsmanship. He played bass guitar with his brother, Preston, and worked on projects with his father, Elliott. Dallas was also involved in several sports, including soccer, football, track, and bull riding during his time in Greeley. After moving to Montrose in 2022, he continued to pursue his passions for football and lacrosse.
Dallas had dreams of becoming a teacher and enrolled at Colorado Mesa University to study Early Childhood Education. He was motivated by a strong desire to work with children and make a positive impact on their lives.
The family remembers Dallas for his caring spirit and the love he brought to everyone he met. They will lay him to rest on November 9 in a private family service at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, Colorado.
