On October 16, emergency services were called to an explosion in Newcastle.

The tragic blast took the life of seven-year-old Archie York. Later, another body, thought to be a 30-year-old man, was found under the debris of three destroyed houses on Violet Close in Benwell.

Six more people were taken to the hospital, and officials believe no one else is missing. The other residents have been staying with friends and family nearby.

“Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he tragically passed away at the scene.

“This is a truly devastating outcome.”

“I am sure the people of Elswick and Benwell, and our whole region, will join me in sending thoughts and condolences to the family and friends. The loss and pain they must feel is unimaginable.”

Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of both people who lost their lives.
