Princess Catherine: Deserving Finalist or Overrated Choice for TIME’s Person of the Year?

Princess Catherine’s nomination for a major magazine award has sparked debates online, with some people questioning if she truly deserves it, especially after her recent health struggles.

On December 9, Princess Catherine was named a finalist for TIME magazine’s “Person of the Year” award. While many see her as a strong and inspiring figure, others are skeptical about the decision.

One critic said, “If anyone could be less qualified to receive such an honor… 🙄.” Another doubted her worthiness, stating, “This is gross. There is nothing she has done this year or any other to earn that title.”

Others expressed disbelief, with one person saying, “OMG that is so funny and so very sad that someone actually thought she was worthy 🤷‍♀️.” Another added, “Really! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ For what, being a spouse?”

Some critics argued that others deserved the recognition more, with one person suggesting Catherine herself might not want the title.

However, many fans supported Catherine’s nomination. A supporter called her “an absolute hero” and praised her as “a credit to the Royal Family ❤️.” Others admired her courage during her health battle.

TIME’s recognition follows a difficult year for Catherine. In January, she underwent abdominal surgery and later revealed a cancer diagnosis in March. On June 14, she posted her first photo since her diagnosis, showing herself by a large tree. The picture symbolized strength during her treatment.

In the post, Catherine thanked everyone for their support, saying, “I have been blown away by all the kind messages.” She also opened up about chemotherapy, explaining, “On those bad days you feel weak and tired, but on the good days, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

Despite her health challenges, Catherine remained positive and grateful, adding, “Thank you so much for your understanding and for sharing your stories with me.”

On June 15, the day after her Instagram post, Catherine appeared at the Trooping the Colour event with her family. This was her first public event since sharing her diagnosis. The event, which celebrates the King’s official birthday, included over 1,000 soldiers and hundreds of horses in a grand parade. Catherine was praised for her elegant appearance and composure.

In September, Catherine announced she had finished chemotherapy. Many admired her openness and resilience as she gradually resumed her royal duties.

On December 3, she joined Prince William to welcome the Amir of Qatar during his state visit to the UK. Catherine turned heads in a maroon coat paired with a matching beret and gloves, earning praise for her classic style.

The state visit included formal events like a grand welcome ceremony and a lavish banquet at Buckingham Palace. Catherine’s presence and grace stood out to many royal enthusiasts, even as some voiced concern about her health.

Despite the mixed reactions online, Princess Catherine’s nomination for TIME’s “Person of the Year” highlights her strength during a challenging year. She has been recognized by TIME before, as a runner-up in 2011 and as part of the TIME100 list of Most Influential People in 2013.
