Bradley Cooper says he feels very fortunate to be alive, even though he had some tough times dealing with addiction in the past.
|It’s sad to say that addiction is not uncommon, even among famous people.
Bradley Cooper, a well-known actor, is just one of many who had a tough time and feels “lucky” to still be alive after dealing with addiction for years.
On a recent episode of the show Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge, the actor, who was nominated for an Oscar, talked about his struggles with overcoming his dependence on alcohol and drugs.
Before his famous role in The Hangover, he had already been dealing with these challenges for about 10 years. He feels fortunate that he didn’t get lost in the problems that come with being famous.
He had some “wild years” before becoming a celebrity, especially with alcohol and drugs. But he made a positive change in his life, getting sober at 29 years old, and now he’s been sober for 19 years.
Bradley Cooper, the star of Maestro, talked about a tough time in his life on the Smartless podcast with hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes.
In 2004, Will Arnett visited Cooper and noticed he hadn’t taken his dogs out. That moment made Bradley realize he had a problem with drugs and alcohol. It was a big wake-up call that changed his life.
At that time, he felt really down and lost, especially after leaving the TV show Alias, which made him feel like he had no self-esteem.
Despite the struggles, Cooper said his former life as an addict helped him play Jackson Maine in 2018’s A Star is Born.
“It made it easier to really enter in there,” Cooper said. “And thank goodness I was at a place in my life where I was at ease with all that. So I could really let myself go.”
Staying sober for 19 years is a huge accomplishment. Bradley Cooper deserves our praise!
