BREAKING: Suspect Caught in Connection to Devastating Los Angeles Wildfire!
|The LAPD has arrested a man in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, for suspected arson connected to the Kenneth Fire. This fire is now spreading toward Hidden Hills and Calabasas.
Authorities say the fire, which is spreading uncontrollably due to strong winds, was deliberately set.
Charles Dinsel, a senior officer in the LAPD, told NewsNation: “What we know so far is that the incident started here, and 20 to 30 minutes later, a suspect was detained by citizens in Woodland Hills.”
The Kenneth Fire has burned over 950 acres.
According to Fox News, the arrest happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday near Arcos Drive and Galendo Street. Residents saw a man on a bicycle carrying a torch and trying to light old Christmas trees and garbage cans on fire. They managed to stop him and tied him up with zip ties.
They held the man until police arrived.
Authorities have not shared the suspect’s identity and are investigating if he started other fires.
At first, the LAPD said, “There’s no way to know yet exactly where and how these fires started, but we are investigating.”
Celebrities like Henry Winkler, Chris Brown, and Elizabeth Chambers have suggested the fires were started on purpose.
The wildfires in Los Angeles have killed 10 people and injured many others. Despite firefighters’ efforts, the fires are still not under control.
So far, the wildfires have destroyed at least 10,000 buildings, including well-known landmarks.
“We expect the fire to spread quickly due to the high winds,” said LA Mayor Karen Bass.
Officials believe the Kenneth Fire, one of the latest fires in LA, started in the San Fernando Valley near Ventura County and the West Hills neighborhood in northwest Los Angeles.
The Kenneth Fire is burning north of the Palisades Fire.
Cal Fire says the Lidia Fire, which is farther north, is now 75% contained and no longer a major California fire.
Right now, the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire are still the largest and most dangerous blazes.
