Caitlyn Jenner believes that the person she used to be, known as ‘old Bruce,’ still exists inside her.
|In the 1970s, Caitlyn Jenner was a very famous athlete who won a gold medal and set a world record at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. After her sports career, she got into the entertainment business.
But now, Caitlyn is well-known for bravely sharing that she is transgender and undergoing gender transition with hormone treatments. She has become a role model for many people.
Even though she’s moved forward, Caitlyn still feels like the person she used to be, known as “old Bruce,” is a part of her. That’s the key information about Caitlyn Jenner!
Caitlyn Jenner was born as William Bruce Jenner on October 28, 1949, in Mount Kisco, New York. When she was young, she had difficulty with dyslexia, but sports became a lifeline for her. Caitlyn showed immense talent in various sports during her childhood.
In high school, she excelled in football, basketball, and water skiing, but her true passion was track and field. Despite starting with a football scholarship, a knee injury led Caitlyn to switch to track and field at Graceland College in Iowa.
Even though Caitlyn was a highly skilled athlete, she struggled with her gender identity from a young age. She admired people who were comfortable in their own skin and wished she could experience the same.
Her college track coach, L.D Weldon, encouraged Caitlyn to train for the Olympic decathlon, a challenging event involving ten track and field competitions. Weldon saw her as the perfect fit for the demanding event, and Caitlyn eventually became an Olympic champion in the decathlon.
In 1971, Caitlyn Jenner surprised everyone by winning the Kansas Relays. The next year, she joined the US Olympic team and came 10th in the Olympic decathlon in Munich.
Even though that was a big accomplishment, Jenner believed she could do even better. So, for the next four years, she practiced intensely for eight hours every day.
When the Olympic Games happened in Montreal, Canada, in 1976, Jenner was fully prepared. On July 30, 1976, at 26 years old, she won the Olympic decathlon and set a new world record with 8,618 points.
This victory was significant for the United States during a tough time, dealing with issues like Vietnam, Watergate, and other big problems. Jenner was celebrated as an American superhero, seen as larger-than-life, with a masculine appearance and long, flowing hair like a lion.
Even though Caitlyn was praised as the world’s best athlete, at the time of receiving the gold medal, she felt like a woman, despite the symbol of masculinity she had become.
“I see a confused person at that time, running away from my life … with big-time fear,” Caitlyn told ABC. “[I was] scared to death. I didn’t realize what my future held at that time.”
“That is me. That is her,” she added, referring to her gender identity. “[you can be a woman] and still kick butt.”
Because of the massive victory in the Olympics, Caitlyn Jenner didn’t only become an American hero. It also meant fame was inevitable, and once she got back to the States, everyone wanted a piece of her.
Jenner got plenty of endorsement deals, becoming a sort of a national brand. Further, she appeared in ads and television shows – and even movies.
However, behind the brand that at the time was Bruce Jenner, she was a different person.
In 1977, Jenner got picked in the seventh round of the National Basketball Association draft by the Kansas City Kings. But as she stood on stage, taking in the fame, chants, and applause, nothing of that really mattered.
“I walk off the stage, and I’d feel like a liar. And I would say, ‘F*ck, I can’t tell my story,” she recalled. “There’s so much more to me than those 48 hours in the stadium, and I can’t talk about it.’ It was frustrating. You get mad at yourself…. Little did they know I was totally empty inside. Totally empty inside.”
A long time ago, in 1971, Caitlyn Jenner got married to her college sweetheart Chrystie Scott. Caitlyn wanted to become an Olympic athlete, and Chrystie supported her a lot. Caitlyn worked selling insurance at night, and Chrystie worked as a flight attendant.
They had two kids, Burt and Cassandra. Burt was born in 1978, and Cassandra was born two years later. However, when Chrystie was pregnant with Cassandra, they decided to separate and go their own ways.
Later on, Caitlyn told a news channel, ABC, that Chrystie was the first person who knew about the challenges Caitlyn was facing with her gender identity.
“I didn’t go heavily into it back then,” Caitlyn explained. “I said ‘these are my issues. This is what I deal with.’ And they think I do a little cross dressing, I do a little of this, a little of that, you know, ‘it’s going to be fine, we’ll work all this stuff out.’”
Despite Jenner’s struggles with gender identity, she kept it inside of her. In 1981, she married Linda Thompson, with whom they had sons Brody and Brandon Jenner. Five years later, the couple divorced.
Later on, Caitlyn revealed that her gender identity struggles actually were partly to blame for the two splitting up. But despite their marriage ending, Thompson was clear that she was always to support Caitlyn.
“My hope is that his transition will inspire others who struggle with their identities, and my prayer is that humanity has evolved and been educated enough to exercise kindness toward those we may perceive as ‘different,” she said.
After Caitlyn Jenner and Linda separated, Caitlyn was feeling really sad, so she decided to get help from professionals for her depression. In the late 80s, she began taking estrogen, had a nose job, and did electrolysis to remove facial hair. She even started growing breasts because she initially wanted to fully become a woman before turning 40. However, she stopped the process at 39.
Caitlyn was having a tough time figuring out her identity. Unfortunately, during that time, people didn’t understand or respect transgender individuals as much as they do now. This made it even harder for Caitlyn because she was famous.
Caitlyn is a very brave person. She opened up to her older sister Pam about the struggles she was going through – the first time anyone in her family heard about it. But some family members had a hard time understanding.
In 1991, Caitlyn married Kris Jenner, and they stayed together until 2015. They had two famous daughters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
Their family became very well-known, but Caitlyn had to deal with her identity struggles amidst all the fame.
In 2013, Kris and Caitlyn decided not to be together anymore. Four months later, Caitlyn started her transition to become a woman, but she didn’t tell her children about it.
Caitlyn was worried about how her family would feel when they found out because they didn’t know about her plans. She felt really nervous that night, thinking everything might be difficult.
In 2014, Kris and Caitlyn officially got divorced. Caitlyn then talked to all of her children about her decision to become a woman. Luckily, she got a lot of love and support from all of them.
Now, Caitlyn Jenner is living her new life as a woman, which is quite different from before. Sometimes, Kendall and Kylie still call her “dad,” but Caitlyn doesn’t mind it at all, even though it might be a bit confusing. She’s happy with the way things are.

“I know we had a talk a few years ago and you were ok with us still calling you dad. How do you feel about that now,” her daughter, Kylie, asked Caitlyn in a video on her Youtube channel:

“I think deciding to become Caitlyn was one of the best choices I made. This community can be tough, especially with pronouns and everyone having their own opinions,” Caitlyn said.
“But I believed from the start that I have to do it my way, what works for me. And everyone else can do what works for them. Some people might say, ‘You’re the mother,’ but I’m not. I’m the dad. I’ve been the dad all the way, and I will be their father until the day they or I pass away.”
Even though it’s been more than five years since Caitlyn became Caitlyn, she still feels that a part of “Bruce” is inside her. Just like before her transition, she still enjoys things that Bruce liked, such as car racing or flying planes.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Caitlyn Jenner has about $100 million.
