Dolly Parton Releases New Version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” Featuring Four Superstar Singers

Country music legend Dolly Parton has released a new version of her iconic 1977 ballad “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” featuring an all-star lineup of celebrated performers. The updated rendition brings together Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire to celebrate both the song’s enduring message and Parton’s upcoming 80th birthday.

Originally released on Parton’s 1977 album New Harvest…First Gathering, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” has long been regarded as one of her most hopeful and uplifting songs. The tune was written during a challenging period in Parton’s life and quickly became a signature piece symbolizing resilience and optimism.

In a statement, Parton explained that she chose to revisit the song on the 50th anniversary of writing it and ahead of her 80th birthday as a way of “shining a little light forward.” The collaboration with four renowned artists reflects both her appreciation for their talents and the song’s message of courage through difficult times.

Proceeds from this new version of the track and its accompanying music video are being donated to benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee — an institution Parton has supported for many years.

The lineup on the track combines a diversity of voices and musical backgrounds. Cyrus, Parton’s goddaughter, has previously performed the song on national television, including a notable appearance on Saturday Night Live. Wilson and McEntire bring contemporary country gravitas, while Queen Latifah adds a rich vocal depth to the collaboration.

Along with the recording’s release, a new music video premiered, featuring all five artists and additional vocal contributions that enhance the emotional resonance of the track. The reimagined version offers both longtime fans and new listeners a fresh take on a classic song with a message that remains relevant today.
