Dolly Parton Says She Won’t Attend Her 80th Birthday Opry Show in Heartfelt Message
Country music icon Dolly Parton has revealed that she will not be able to attend her upcoming 80th birthday celebration at the Grand Ole Opry — but she made sure fans felt her love in a heartfelt message.
On Thursday, January 8, Parton appeared in a video shared on the Opry’s official Instagram page, expressing gratitude for the tribute event scheduled for January 17, just days before she officially turns 80 on January 19.

“Some of My Favorite Memories Happened Right Here”
“Well hey there, Grand Ole Opry family,” Parton began warmly. “I just wanted to say how much it means to me that you’re all coming together again this year to celebrate my big ol’ birthday with some of my songs.”
Reflecting on her long history with the legendary stage, she added:
“Some of my favorite memories happened right here on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. I wish I could be there in person, but I’ll be sending you all my love, for sure.”
She ended the message by encouraging fans to “have the best night ever.”
In the video, the “Jolene” singer appeared radiant in a white button-down shirt with yellow lace detailing, paired with matching jeans — a look that reflected her signature blend of elegance and warmth.

A Star-Studded Tribute in Her Honor
Although Parton will not attend in person, the celebration will go on with a lineup of Opry members and special guests honoring her legacy through music.
Performers include Vince Gill, Lainey Wilson, Rhonda Vincent, and songwriter Trannie Anderson, with additional artists expected to be announced.
The Grand Ole Opry confirmed in the comments that while Parton won’t be present, the day will be filled with themed festivities, including birthday cupcakes, a giant card for fans to sign, Dolly-inspired drinks, photo opportunities, and musical tributes celebrating her extraordinary career.
The event will also coincide with a special “80 Years of Song” retail collection created in collaboration with Parton, available for pre-order.
Health Update and Looking Ahead
Parton’s absence comes months after she announced that she would postpone her Las Vegas residency until September 2026 following a kidney stone–related infection.
A source close to the singer previously told People that Parton has been steadily improving.
“Dolly is getting better every day,” the source said. “She’s at home taking care of herself while friends and family visit.”
“I Feel Like I’m Just Getting Started”
In a recent interview, Parton reflected candidly on approaching 80, dismissing the idea that age defines her limits.
“People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what?” she said. “Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started.”
She added that she isn’t focused on getting older, emphasizing gratitude, creativity, and continuing to live fully — a mindset that has defined her career for decades.
While she may not be physically present at the Opry celebration, Dolly Parton’s voice, spirit, and influence will undoubtedly fill the room — just as they have for generations of fans.
