Every Day I Write a Letter to Heaven”: Emotional Confessions from the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Star
|John Schneider has been married three times.
He sadly lost his third wife and shared how he keeps her memory alive.
John also has a difficult relationship with his children.
“The Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider, known for playing Bo Duke from 1975 to 1985, has been married three times. He took another chance at love when he married his longtime girlfriend, Alicia Allain.
However, their marriage wasn’t official yet because he was still in the middle of a five-year divorce from his second wife, Elvira “Elly” Schneider.
John and Alicia Allain exchanged vows on September 25, 2019, in a small ceremony at John Schneider Studios in Holden, Louisiana. They reportedly married “before God” and planned to make it official after finalizing his divorce.
The happy bride said, “This has been a wonderful celebration, a sanctuary of love.” The groom added, “Happy is too small of a word.”
Sadly, after just three years of marriage, Allain passed away in February 2023 at the age of 53. She was surrounded by family when she died.
A day after the heartbreaking news, her husband posted on Facebook, saying, “My beautiful Smile is pain-free, living in her new body alongside Jesus.”
John had previously spoken about his wife’s struggle with breast cancer, while Allain revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 4 HER2 negative cancer.
Six months after Alicia Allain’s death, John Schneider made his first public appearance and talked about his loss in a video interview in July 2023. He believed her death would lead to “remarkable, great things.”
John tearfully shared that he is now dedicated to helping others who are grieving, though he admitted he would never fully get over losing his wife.
John’s Mourning Process
John, who is also a country singer, said that part of his healing was writing a new album called “We Are Still Us” in “honor” of his beloved wife.
He attended the “Drinks With Dee Dee” cabaret show in Hollywood, where he openly discussed his grieving process. He was there to support Dee Dee Sorvino, who also lost her husband, Paul Sorvino.
John went through many emotions while working on his latest album because he and Alicia often wrote songs together. He promised to create a tribute to their shared love for music.
The TV star also revealed that he and Alicia collaborated on films, which he found “very helpful.” Now that she is gone, he is doing his best to honor her through his art.
John excitedly shared that he has finished a new album, which he believes is his best work yet and is about Alicia. It’s titled “We’re Still Us.” He admitted it still hurts to have worked on this project alone without her.
Reports say that Alicia fought cancer for four years and was given five years to live. John often posts notes and letters online about his loss. He said, “Every day, I write a letter to heaven.”
**John’s Strained Relationship with His Adult Children**
Before meeting Alicia, John was married to his second wife, Elvira, for 21 years. They wed in 1993, but she filed for divorce in November 2014, citing irreconcilable differences.
John and Elvira have three adult children: daughters Karis and Leah, and son Chasen Schneider. In a November 2018 interview, John opened up about the split between him and their mother.
“I’ve been going through a divorce now for four years, and it’s awful. The worst part is that it’s created distance between my three adult children and me,” said John Schneider, expressing his concerns.
At the time, he was dating Alicia Allain and hoped that one day things would improve between him and his kids. He wanted to make them “proud.”
In a March 2012 interview, John shared that he is Karis’s biological father and that he found Elvira with three children: Mandy, Leah, and Chasen. “We immediately became a family because I wanted to be a dad… I wanted, wanted, wanted to be a dad,” said the loving father, whose first wife was TV personality Tawny Little.
