Fans Declare Singers is the Only Reason to Watch the Super Bowl—Do You Agree?

Super Bowl LIX will take place on February 9, 2025, and will feature a major headliner performing with a special guest.

The guest star joining the halftime show is already creating a lot of excitement. Even people who don’t usually watch football say they will tune in just to see the singer’s performance.

The NFL has announced that singer-songwriter SZA will perform alongside rapper and Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl halftime show. The announcement came with a fun video showing SZA playfully splashing Kendrick with a blue drink, similar to how winning teams celebrate by drenching their coach.

SZA also shared the video, writing, “Taking the stage with @KendrickLamar! #AppleMusicHalftime #SBLIX.” The duo will perform at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.

Fans are thrilled to see SZA perform on such a big stage. One fan said, “Only watching the Super Bowl for SZA.” Another wrote, “Probably only watching the Super Bowl to watch SZA perform.” Someone else excitedly said, “I’m super excited,” showing how much hype SZA’s performance is creating.

One person who isn’t a football fan joked, “SZA BOWL! I don’t watch football, but I will now! 😜.” Another said, “I just heard SZA is performing at the Super Bowl… I WILL BE WATCHING!”

Some fans are hoping for tickets, with one saying, “Omg, can’t wait. Now if you just so happen to have an extra pair of tickets… lol.” Another fan made a joke about Kendrick Lamar’s role, saying, “Kendrick knew he didn’t have enough hits for a Super Bowl performance, so he brought SZA. Smart move!”

SZA has been on a winning streak recently. Her album *SOS Deluxe: Lana* has topped the charts, and her film *One of Them Days*, featuring actress Keke Palmer, is also a success. The four-time Grammy winner has also earned four nominations for the 2025 iHeartRadio Awards.

The singer, whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe, has two nominations for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song at the 2025 Grammy Awards, bringing her total Grammy nominations to 26.

SZA celebrated her success on Instagram, including her upcoming Super Bowl performance. She wrote, “LIFE TOO SHORT TO PLAY SMALL AND NOT PRIORITIZE SELF LOVE AND SELF ACCEPTANCE! GOOD BAD AND OOGLY!!! AHHHH God is so good!! Yall are so good!! Sending love to everybuddy ❤️THANK YOU ❤️🫡🫶🏾🥲 [sic].”

Before SZA was announced, Kendrick had already shared in September 2024 that he would be headlining the halftime show. In a YouTube clip, he encouraged fans to dress up in their best outfits, even if they were watching from home.

The rapper, who has won 17 Grammys, is excited for the challenge. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” he said. Kendrick is also the first musician outside of classical and jazz to win a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album *DAMN.*

NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky is confident in Kendrick’s ability to deliver a great show. “Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar,” he said. Seth also praised Kendrick for his ability to connect with audiences and transform hip-hop.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Kendrick, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to deliver another unforgettable Halftime Show,” Seth added.

Before the main event, the Super Bowl pregame show will feature big names. Jon Batiste will perform the National Anthem, Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle will sing *America the Beautiful*, and Ledisi will perform *Lift Every Voice and Sing.*

After their Super Bowl performance, Kendrick Lamar and SZA will prepare for a Grand National Tour across the U.S. and Canada. The tour, supporting Kendrick’s sixth studio album *GNX*, was announced on December 3, 2024, just 11 days after the album’s release.

*GNX* features two collaborations with SZA, making their upcoming joint tour even more exciting. The tour will begin on April 19 in Minneapolis and end in Washington on June 18.

While some fans are focused on the halftime show, others are excited to see two of the best football teams compete for the championship.

For those who can’t attend the game at Caesars Superdome, located at 1500 Sugar Bowl Drive in New Orleans, Louisiana, there are several ways to watch. FOX will broadcast the game live, with national coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. ET. Fans with smart TVs can also stream it through the NFL and Tubi channels.

For those using a tablet or phone, the game can be streamed live via the NFL app. Fans who prefer to listen can tune in via NFL+, SiriusXM, and WestwoodONE.

The NFL Network will provide over 70 hours of live coverage throughout Super Bowl week. According to their Instagram, the opening game will feature the Kansas City Chiefs playing against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL also shared a playoff diagram, showing how the Chiefs and Eagles made it to the Super Bowl.

The Eagles earned their Super Bowl spot after defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game on January 26. Their 55 points set a new record, with Jalen Hurts scoring three touchdowns and throwing for one. The NFL celebrated their victory on Instagram, calling them the “NFC Champions.”

Meanwhile, the Chiefs became AFC Champions after beating the Buffalo Bills 32-29. This is the fifth time in six seasons that they’ve made it to the Super Bowl.

The NFL also posted about the Chiefs’ win, writing, “For the 5th time in the last six years, the @chiefs are AFC Champions. #SBLIX.”

As the countdown to Super Bowl LIX continues, fans worldwide are excited for a game filled with thrilling moments and top-tier entertainment. Whether watching from home or in person, this year’s event promises to be a celebration of both football and music.
