Fans Outraged Over ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Finale – ‘Worst Ending Ever!

Many fans were unhappy with the Season 5 finale of Yellowstone. They felt the episode, which might lead to a spin-off, could have ended better.

Yellowstone fans shared their frustrations after watching the finale on December 15. The episode showed the Dutton family saying goodbye to John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner).

A clip posted online featured Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) placing a white rose on John’s coffin. She leans in and vows to avenge him.

After the funeral, Beth visits her brother, Jamie (Wes Bentley). They have a violent fight, and Jamie nearly kills Beth. However, Beth’s husband, Rip (Cole Hauser), saves her.

The fight ends with Beth stabbing Jamie. Rip and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) dispose of Jamie’s body, while Beth tells the police he was involved in their father’s death.

Regarding the land, Kayce (Luke Grimes) decides to keep the East Camp for his family and cows. He sells the rest to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) for $1.25 per acre, totaling $1.1 million. Thomas agrees not to develop or sell the land.

Some viewers criticized the rushed writing and lack of surprises. One said, “Weak ending. Predictable and boring.” Others felt robbed by how it concluded.

Despite the backlash, some fans enjoyed the finale. One said it was a “great end,” while another noted it was “hard to say goodbye” to such an amazing series.

One fan loved Kelly Reilly’s performance, calling it a fitting end for Beth. Others praised emotional moments, such as Beth stabbing Jamie and Rip taking his body away.

Before the finale aired, Yellowstone promoted it with teaser posts showing key cast members and moments from the episode.

Kelly Reilly later shared a heartfelt post thanking creator Taylor Sheridan, the cast, and fans. She reflected on her time on the show, saying it changed her life.

Luke Grimes also posted a goodbye to his character, Kayce, calling the experience unforgettable. Kelsey Asbille shared a moment with Grimes, describing their work together as a dream.

While Yellowstone has ended, reports suggest a spin-off is in the works. Deadline reported that Reilly and Hauser are expected to lead it.

The spin-off will focus on present-day events, with some original cast members joining. Rumors about this began months ago, with negotiations taking place behind the scenes.

Reilly confirmed that if the spin-off happens, the story would need to shift. “Yellowstone as we know it is ending, but there may be more to tell,” she said.

Talks about continuing Yellowstone began after Paramount Network announced a new series, 2024, which was later renamed The Madison.

Other spin-offs include 1883 and 1923, which explore the Dutton family’s past. 1883 followed their journey west, while 1923 tackled challenges like the Great Depression.

Before the finale, fans had already expressed frustrations with earlier episodes. Many disliked a cameo by supermodel Bella Hadid in Episode 13.

In that episode, Beth visits Travis Wheatley (played by Sheridan) and meets his girlfriend, Sadie, played by Hadid. Fans questioned the purpose of her appearance.

Critics called the episode unnecessary and a distraction from the main story. Some felt it was the worst episode of the series.

Fans joked about Sheridan casting Hadid as his character’s girlfriend and blamed such choices for Kevin Costner’s departure.

Despite this, the Yellowstone team welcomed Hadid warmly, calling her part of the family. However, many fans believed the episode wasted time and failed to deliver on expectations.
