The Tragic Case of Sara Sharif and the Fate of Her Father in Prison
The horrific murder of 10-year-old Sara Sharif shocked people around the world. Her father, Urfan Sharif, later admitted to killing his daughter in a brutal act of violence.
But the story didn’t end with Sara’s death. After his arrest, Urfan’s time in prison took a dark turn when fellow inmates attacked him, taking justice into their own hands.
A Shocking Crime
On August 8, 2023, the world was heartbroken when news broke about Sara Sharif, a bright and loving 10-year-old girl.
According to reports, Sara had suffered two years of torture before her body was discovered in her home in Woking, Surrey. She had been beaten, burned, and abused.
When police arrived, they found a note next to her body, written by her father. It read:
“Whoever sees this note, it’s me, Urfan Sharif, who killed my daughter by beating. I am running away because I am scared.”
Before fleeing, he also wrote:
“I swear to God that my intention was not to kill her. But I lost it.”
Shockingly, Urfan and two family members fled to Pakistan the day before police found Sara’s body.
The Arrest and Trial
After a weeks-long international manhunt, Urfan, his brother Faisal Malik (29), and his wife Beinash Batool (30) were arrested and charged.
During the trial, the court heard how Sara had over 70 injuries, including:
-Broken ribs and spine
-A puncture wound to her head
-Brain trauma
-A burn from a hot iron
-Human bite marks
-At first, the three suspects denied any involvement. But later, Urfan admitted in court, “She died because of me.”
On December 17, 2024, the judge sentenced them:
Urfan Sharif: Life in prison, minimum of 40 years
Beinash Batool: Life in prison, minimum of 33 years
Faisal Malik: 16 years for allowing the death of a child
The judge called their abuse “almost inconceivable” and described it as a “campaign of torture.”
Sara’s birth mother, Olga Domin, spoke in court, calling them “sadists” and adding:
“Even that word is not enough for you. You are executioners.”
She then spoke to her daughter’s memory:
“She is now an angel looking down on us. She is no longer experiencing violence.”
Life in Prison and the “Inmate Code”
Inside South London’s HMP Belmarsh, also known as Britain’s Guantanamo Bay, Urfan quickly realized prison was not a safe place for him.
In many prisons, there is an unwritten rule: even among criminals, those who harm children are despised.
One source told the media:
“Inmates were not happy he was in there. Many of them are in for terrible crimes, but they don’t like people who attack children.”
On New Year’s Day, just weeks into his sentence, two prisoners decided to punish Urfan themselves.
The Brutal Attack
The inmates ambushed Urfan in his cell, using a jagged lid from a tuna can as a weapon.
A prison insider described the attack:
“Urfan was sliced up badly in his cell. It was planned. They used a makeshift weapon—made from a tin of tuna. He was cut on the neck and face. He is still in bad shape.”
Although Urfan survived, he needed stitches and will have scars for life.
“He was lucky to survive,” the source added.
Who Attacked Him?
Reports suggest that one of the attackers was Steve Sansom, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence.
Sansom was found guilty of:
The 2024 murder and dismemberment of Sarah Mayhew (38)
The 1999 murder of cab driver Terrence Boyle (59)
Final Thoughts
Prisoners often follow a strict code: harming children is one of the worst crimes in their eyes.
One inmate summed it up:
“Something like this was always going to happen. It was just a matter of time. Many are saying it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy.”
