Former President Bill Clinton Rushed to Hospital – What We Know So Far

Former President Bill Clinton is getting medical care just before Christmas, with his close friends sharing updates about his health.

On Monday, December 23, Clinton was taken to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He had a fever, his spokesman said. Clinton is undergoing tests and is being watched closely. An aide said he is “awake and alert.”

Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena, shared that Clinton is doing fine. Urena added, “He hopes to be home by Christmas and is thankful for the great care he’s getting.”

News about Clinton’s hospitalization spread quickly just days before Christmas. A longtime friend said the situation is “not urgent or very serious.”

Clinton was at his home in Washington when he started feeling unwell. Doctors decided he should stay in the hospital overnight for further checks.

This isn’t the first time Clinton has faced serious health issues. In 2004, he had quadruple bypass surgery after doctors found dangerous blockages in his arteries.

The surgery, which lasted four hours, rerouted blood flow around four blocked arteries. Doctors warned he was at high risk of a major heart attack. Clinton’s symptoms included mild chest pain and shortness of breath, but he thought it was acid reflux or lack of exercise.

Clinton’s wife, Hillary, shared her relief after the surgery, thanking God and the medical team for taking care of him.

In 2005, Clinton dealt with another health issue when he was treated for a partially collapsed lung. Then, in 2010, he needed emergency surgery to insert two stents after a vein from his earlier bypass surgery failed.

This health scare made Clinton change his lifestyle. He became vegan and adopted healthier habits. In a 2013 interview, Clinton said he made the change because he wanted to live longer and be around for his family.

Clinton admitted giving up cheese and yogurt was harder than giving up meat, chicken, and fish, but he said it made a big difference. He lost over 30 pounds and felt more energetic, saying, “I wanted to be healthier to help others through my foundation.”

Even with his healthier lifestyle, Clinton faced another setback in 2021. He was hospitalized for six days in Los Angeles after a urological infection spread to his bloodstream.

Despite these health challenges, Clinton remains active. Last fall, he campaigned for candidates and spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Recently, he has been promoting his book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.

Now, as he is being monitored in the hospital, his team says Clinton is in good spirits, and many are hoping he recovers quickly.
