Jonathan Bailey Opens Up About Fatherhood Dreams “Having Kids Is Such a Privilege, Isn’t It?
Jonathan Bailey — known worldwide for his breakout role in Bridgerton and now starring in Wicked — is opening up about one of the most personal questions of all: whether he wants to become a father someday.
In a new interview for the winter issue of Esquire UK (out November 13), the 37-year-old actor spoke candidly about the idea of starting a family, describing it as both a dream and a privilege.
“There’s obviously loads of kids that could really benefit from love and support,” Bailey said. “I have the absolute privilege of being a gay man — there’s no biological clock. It’s such a privilege, isn’t it, to even be able to have a kid? So, I’m aware of it as an idea, as a concept, but it doesn’t feel very loud in my head at the moment.”
A Thoughtful Approach to Family and Future
While Bailey isn’t rushing into parenthood, the Bridgerton star has previously spoken about his hopes of one day stepping into the role of a father. In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, he admitted that the thought has definitely crossed his mind.
“If the planets align, for sure,” he said. “I feel like in the world we live in now, everyone’s going to need a bit of guidance. Although, I’d be terrible at getting them through university — and they wouldn’t speak another language. But maybe they will, and that’s how I’ll learn.”

“It’s amazing to be able to accept it without a second thought, knowing that it’s meaningful and impactful, as well as just an incredible and hilarious honor,” he explained.
The actor added that he’s proud of what this recognition represents for the LGBTQ+ community.
“I know what it means — for me, for little me, and for a lot of people out there,” he said. “It’s a celebratory moment for a lot of people.”
