Kelly Clarkson and Garth Brooks amazed fans when they joined forces for a stunning duet of Shallow, the hit song made famous by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born.
In 2019, Kelly Clarkson gave her fans a huge surprise during her Meaning of Life tour in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She performed Shallow, the Grammy and Golden Globe-winning song from A Star Is Born.
“This chick is amazing,” Clarkson, 42, said about Lady Gaga, who co-wrote the song and starred in the film alongside Bradley Cooper.
“This song, I love it… I thought she and Bradley Cooper did such an awesome job with this song. It’s called Shallow, and we’re going to do our own version of it because obviously, I don’t have a Bradley Cooper here.”
“I hope I don’t suck, and if I do, I hope she doesn’t see it,” Clarkson joked, according to People.
Her cover was watched by millions of fans who loved her performance and praised her incredible voice.
“She sings it like she wrote it herself!!! Beautiful,” one fan commented on Clarkson’s YouTube video.

A couple of years later, country music legend Garth Brooks visited The Kelly Clarkson Show for a musical jam session with the host.
Before they performed, Brooks talked about his own experience singing Shallow with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 2020.
“I actually saw y’all do this [on Facebook] – it was live in the moment. You were doing some live thing. Is that how it all started?” Clarkson asked. She also mentioned that the duet was a highlight of Brooks’ album, Fun.
Brooks, who turned 63 on February 7, explained that someone had requested him and Trisha to sing Shallow during his Facebook Live show.
“Miss Yearwood knew what she was doing, so I was like, ‘Oh, crap.’ I’d seen the movie – it’s pretty cool,” Brooks said while playing the song on his guitar.
“It invites you in… I love it,” Clarkson said excitedly.
Their duet was both intimate and powerful. Clarkson’s soaring vocals mixed with Brooks’ deep country voice created a beautiful, emotional version of Shallow that touched fans from all genres.
