Kidnapped boy featured on “Unsolved Mysteries” found 7 years later
|DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – A child from Georgia who had been missing for seven years has been discovered alive in Colorado.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that Abdul Aziz Khan, now 14 years old, was found on February 23, according to KMGH reports.
Deputies came across the missing boy while investigating a burglary at an abandoned house.
Authorities say a man and a woman had reportedly broken into the residence, leaving two children inside a car parked outside. Upon further investigation, officials confirmed that one of the children was Khan, the boy who had been missing for years.
Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly shared his emotional reaction to the case, stating:
“I had the privilege of meeting with the family in my office yesterday, and I can tell you that there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. They are incredibly grateful to our deputies for recognizing what was happening and helping bring Aziz home.”
Khan’s case had previously been featured on Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries”, gaining widespread attention from both the U.S. Marshals Service and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
According to authorities, the woman arrested for burglary was identified as Khan’s mother, Rabia Khalid. She had lost custody of him and was accused of abducting him from Atlanta.
Both Rabia Khalid and Elliot Blake Bourgeois, the man arrested with her, were taken into custody and formally charged.
