Maria Thought She’d Never See Her Dream Come True—Until Her Carer Did the Unthinkable
|We all age and eventually pass away.
I’m not particularly scared of dying; I think it’s a natural and even beautiful part of life. But what I do fear is getting old and being unable to take care of myself.
Relying entirely on others, unable to go to the bathroom alone, or even remember my children’s names—that doesn’t feel like a life I want.
Maria was living her final days in a care facility. She knew her time left was short.
Throughout her life, Maria had been a music teacher, teaching singing and piano. She deeply missed being surrounded by music.
Luckily, one of her former students was working at her care home in Austinburg, Ohio.
Joshua Woodard had been her student since he was nine years old, so they had a long history together.
Maria’s last wish was to hear the song “How Great Thou Art” one last time.
Joshua was more than willing to grant her wish.
With the lyrics on his phone, he sang a heartfelt version of Maria’s favorite song.
Even more touching, Joshua had known Maria since he was just nine.
“Hospice workers are angels, and this hospice aide is truly special,” said Marti Adkins Redmond.
“Maria taught piano and voice, and Joshua was one of her students as a child. Hospice workers are very special people!”
Maria’s sister-in-law captured the emotional moment on video.
Sadly, Maria has now passed away, which makes this touching moment even more meaningful.
