Miller Gardner’s Cause of Death Confirmed as Asphyxiation After 14-Year-Old Dies in His Sleep

Mystery Surrounds Sudden Death of Brett Gardner’s Son – Asphyxiation Ruled Out, Investigation Ongoing

A heartbreaking and unexpected tragedy has left many in shock as 14-year-old Miller Gardner, the youngest son of former New York Yankees star Brett Gardner, passed away while on vacation with his family.

Initially, Costa Rican authorities suggested that asphyxiation may have been the cause of the teen’s untimely death, possibly linked to food poisoning that affected multiple family members. However, just a day later, officials released an updated statement ruling out asphyxiation as the cause.

“No abnormalities were observed at the macro level in the respiratory tract during the inspection,” the report stated, casting new uncertainty on what caused the young boy’s death.

A Peaceful Goodbye, But Many Questions Remain

Miller was found unresponsive on Friday, March 21 in his hotel room in Manuel Antonio, a resort area along Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. According to his parents, Brett and Jessica Gardner, the teen had fallen ill during the trip, along with several other family members.

“Miller left us far too soon,” they shared in a statement. “We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.”

 Remembering Miller Gardner

Miller, still in high school, was known for his love of sports, especially football, baseball, and golf. He wore jersey No. 11, in honor of his father’s iconic career with the Yankees. His parents described him as having an infectious smile, and said he loved hunting, fishing, family, and friends.

“He lived life to the fullest every single day,” they added.

In a heartfelt tribute, the New York Yankees called Miller “a spark of energy,” with a feisty personality and a warm, loving heart.

Miller was the Gardners’ youngest son, and he is survived by his older brother, Hunter. Brett and Jessica Gardner have been married since 2007.

Cause of Death Still Under Investigation

The true cause of Miller’s death remains unknown, and authorities say a final determination may take two to three months, pending toxicology, histology, and neuropathology reports.

As the investigation continues, the Gardner family is mourning the loss of a young boy who brought so much joy to those around him — a life taken far too soon, with a legacy that will never be forgotten.
