Nurses see some of the hardest moments in people’s lives every day. But they also get to witness amazing things, sometimes even miracles. That’s what happened to nurse Brandalyn Mae Porter when she saw something special about an elderly woman’s hands.
Brandalyn shared a photo on social media, showing the hands of an older woman. At first glance, it seemed like an ordinary picture. But when people read Brandalyn’s words, they saw the hands in a whole new way.
The post was shared over 160,000 times on Facebook.
In her caption, Brandalyn explained, “Today I painted a new resident’s nails at work. While we were picking a color, she told me she wanted clear. I thought, ‘CLEAR?! That’s no fun.'”
She then asked the woman why she wanted clear nails, and the woman replied, “My hands are ugly, I don’t want to draw attention to them.”
Brandalyn gently responded, “Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell the story of love, care, and adventure. These hands have touched and held things that most people can only dream of.” The woman then chose to paint her nails pink.
Brandalyn ended the post with a reminder: “Sometimes what we are so insecure about, others find beautiful.”
