Police: 12-Year-Old Girl Assaulted in Brooklyn Housing Stairwell After Stranger’s Chilling Threat
Police in New York City are urgently searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a Brooklyn public housing building on Thursday evening — an attack officials have described as both “heinous” and “deeply disturbing.”
The Incident
According to NYPD sources, the assault occurred around 5:45 p.m. inside the Cooper Houses on Morgan Avenue near Jackson Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Investigators say the young girl was walking in the stairwell when a stranger approached her and made an explicit threat before carrying out the assault.
The suspect reportedly told the girl, “I’m going to violate you,” before forcing her to comply.
Authorities say the attacker fled moments later when another person entered the stairwell, interrupting the attack.
Victim in Stable Condition
Emergency responders transported the 12-year-old victim to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Police confirmed she is receiving medical care and support from specialized victim services.
“This was a despicable and cowardly act,” one NYPD official said. “We will not rest until this predator is found.”
Suspect Description
The suspect remains at large as of Friday. Police described him as a man in his 20s, with distinctive gold-tipped dreadlocks, and last seen wearing a black T-shirt.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the building and nearby streets and have increased patrols in the area.
