Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner’s Children Break Silence, Say Memorial Will Be Held at a Later Date
The children of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner are speaking publicly once again following the shocking deaths of their parents, sharing gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received and confirming that a formal memorial service will be announced at a later time.
In a statement released Monday, Dec. 22 through a spokesperson and shared with People, siblings Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner expressed appreciation for the compassion shown to their family during an unimaginably painful period.
“Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received,” the statement read. “They will share information about a memorial service honoring their parents at a later date.”

The update follows a private, informal gathering of close friends and loved ones that took place last week at the home of filmmaker and longtime family friend Albert Brooks, according to sources familiar with the event.
Tragic Loss That Shook Hollywood
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found dead inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Authorities later confirmed that the couple died from homicide-related injuries. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested the same day and has since been charged with two counts of murder.
According to reporting from the Los Angeles Times and KNBC, Nick had been receiving treatment for schizophrenia prior to the incident. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and no plea has yet been entered. Nick appeared in court on Dec. 17, where his attorney, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea on his behalf. His arraignment is scheduled to continue on Jan. 7.
Rob and Michele shared three children together — Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his previous marriage to the late filmmaker and actress Penny Marshall.

Family Requests Compassion and Privacy
In the days following the tragedy, the Reiner family released an initial statement confirming the deaths and requesting privacy.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family said at the time. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
On Dec. 17, Jake and Romy issued a deeply emotional follow-up message, describing the devastation of losing both parents.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the siblings said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
They also urged the public to approach the situation with empathy. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
A Family Rooted in Film and Storytelling

Rob and Michele Reiner were married in 1989, having met while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally…, one of the most celebrated romantic comedies in film history. Over the decades, they became one of Hollywood’s most respected creative partnerships.
Romy Reiner has followed in her father’s and grandfather Carl Reiner’s footsteps, pursuing an acting career in Hollywood. She made her screen debut in Voices (2020) and has since appeared in projects such as You People and Things Like This, the latter executive produced by her brother Jake, a filmmaker in his own right. Romy also appeared in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, a series her father once guest-starred on in 2001.
As the legal process continues, the Reiner family has emphasized their desire to focus on healing, remembrance, and honoring the enduring legacy of Rob and Michele Reiner — both personally and professionally — in the months ahead.
A memorial service celebrating their lives will be announced when the family is ready.
