Rob Reiner and Wife Michele’s Cause of Death Revealed as Son Faces Murder Charges
The cause of death for Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner has now been officially released, confirming the tragic details behind the shocking double homicide. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner announced that both died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” indicating fatal wounds inflicted by a sharp object.
The couple was found inside their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, where LAPD officers discovered the two bodies suffering from stab wounds. The next day, police confirmed that Rob and Michele were the victims of homicide, and that evidence directly linked their son, Nick Reiner, to the killings.
Nick, 32, was arrested the same evening and taken into custody without bail. He now faces two counts of murder, with prosecutors alleging he “personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.” Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, has not yet entered a plea on his behalf.
Representatives for the Reiner family did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Rob and Michele’s children, Jake and Romy, released a public statement expressing overwhelming grief.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss,” they wrote, asking for privacy as they process the unthinkable tragedy.
Rob’s eldest daughter, Tracy Reiner, who was raised by the director and shares a close history with him, spoke with NBC News about her shock after seeing her father just one day before his death.
“I came from the greatest family ever,” she said. “I’m in shock.”
The loss has left Hollywood mourning the man behind some of cinema’s most iconic films Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Rob also directed Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical film cowritten by Nick about his turbulent battle with addiction. Nick previously shared that his struggles included 17 rehab stays and periods of homelessness.
Reflecting on his past, Nick once said:
“Having to deal with that stuff made me who I am now.”
