Scott Hamilton Breaks Silence with Shocking Cancer Update – You Won’t Believe What He Said!

Scott Hamilton, the famous Olympic figure skater, has faced many challenges throughout his life. From learning how to skate as a child to dealing with the loss of his mother to breast cancer in 1977, he has shown incredible strength. He also overcame testicular cancer in 1997, undergoing surgery and chemotherapy to beat it.

In 2016, Hamilton faced another fear when he learned that a pituitary tumor in his brain had returned for the third time. Now, he has shared an update on his health.

“When they gave me the diagnosis, they said, it’s back,” Hamilton told People. He was told that he could undergo surgery again, but it would be difficult. The doctor explained that a talented team could help him, but Hamilton had already had two brain surgeries before, one in 2004 and another in 2010, when the tumor came back. The second surgery was especially complicated after an artery in his brain was damaged.

Hamilton knew he didn’t want to go through that again. Instead, he focused on getting stronger. “All I felt was just, don’t worry about this. Just go home and get strong,” he said. His decision was helpful. “It’s been remarkable,” he shared, explaining that his scans showed the tumor hadn’t grown. Later, it shrank by 45%.

Sadly, further scans revealed that the tumor had grown again. Unlike before, Hamilton chose not to undergo treatment. He feels confident in his decision. “All I felt was just, don’t worry about this. Just go home and get strong,” he said. He is now focusing on staying healthy and strong.

Looking back on his journey, Hamilton said there’s still some uncertainty. However, he mentioned there is now a targeted radiation therapy that could help shrink the tumor if necessary.

Hamilton turned 66 this year, celebrating both his birthday and the 40th anniversary of his gold medal win at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. He is thankful for all he has accomplished and for his family.

Hamilton spoke about his family and how grateful he is for everything life has given him. “I never would’ve thought to dream any of it,” he said, expressing his love for his wife and children. He’s also thankful for the chance to give back to his sport and support cancer research.

Latest Cancer Update
In November 2024, Hamilton gave another update to People during The Scott Hamilton and Friends ice show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The event raised money for his CARES Foundation, which supports cancer research—a cause close to his heart due to losing his mother to cancer and his own battle with the disease.

“I’m feeling great!” Hamilton said. “I’m 66, and when I think about what’s next, I know that as long as there is cancer in the world, I’ll be doing something in that space as a volunteer.”
