Hurricane Melissa’s Devastating Impact
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 storm with 185 mph winds, bringing catastrophic destruction across the island. The storm continued toward eastern Cuba, unleashing damaging winds, flooding rains, and dangerous storm surges, according to the National Hurricane Center.
At least seven people lost their lives in Jamaica before the storm reached land near New Hope on the island’s southwestern coast. Entire neighborhoods were left without power, and hundreds of homes were destroyed or severely damaged.

A Legacy of Giving Back
