She Thought She’d Never Get Pregnant—Then the Ultrasound Revealed an Unbelievable Surprise!

About one in five couples will face challenges when trying to have a baby at some point in their lives.

For many, it’s a difficult and stressful journey, but as others have shown, patience and determination can lead to success.

Desiree and Ryan Fortin waited for years before finally deciding to try in-vitro fertilization (IVF). They prayed that it would help them become parents.

Not long after the treatment, they received exciting news—Desiree was pregnant! But they had no idea what was growing inside her.

Desiree and Ryan Fortin, who met in college, have been happily married since 2009. However, they struggled to conceive for a long time.

Doctors diagnosed Desiree with polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypothyroidism, and low progesterone. For three exhausting years, she and her husband tried to get pregnant before turning to IVF.

But instead of seeing a positive pregnancy test, Desiree kept getting her period again and again. The process was emotionally and physically draining.

“It wasn’t just that I couldn’t get pregnant,” Desiree wrote about those painful years.

“[Infertility] brought me more tears than I ever thought I could shed. I lay on my bathroom floor feeling empty after seeing negative pregnancy tests over and over. I had to take shots, deal with bruises, and go through countless medications. Fertility treatment is expensive and exhausting—physically, emotionally, and mentally.”

So when their first IVF attempt worked, Desiree and Ryan were beyond thrilled.
And when they saw the ultrasound, they were completely shocked—there were not one, but three babies growing! They were expecting triplets!

But their struggles weren’t over yet.

Even though she was finally pregnant, doctors warned Desiree that she might not be able to carry all three babies to full term.

“I was told I was too thin, too short, and it was my first pregnancy,” she recalled. “But my hope proved them wrong.”

In the summer of 2015, the Fortin triplets were born. Desiree delivered at 34 weeks and one day via C-section.

Ryan and Desiree were overjoyed to welcome their babies—Sawyer, Jack, and Charlize—each weighing over 5 pounds.

“I will never forget the day I gave birth. Like many things in parenthood, there were unexpected twists. After the triplets were born, Ryan went with them to the neonatal intensive care unit, and I was sent to recovery,” Desiree told Today.

Unfortunately, she faced complications and heavy bleeding, requiring emergency surgery. This meant she couldn’t see her newborns right away.

Thankfully, Ryan FaceTimed her so she could see her precious little miracles. After two weeks in the NICU, all three babies were healthy enough to go home and start their lives.

Bringing three babies home was a dream come true for Ryan and Desiree, but it also came with challenges.

“We are so blessed, but parenting is hard work. It comes with a huge responsibility—caring for tiny humans,” Desiree said.

“Our babies had severe reflux and colic—times three. It was tough to get into a routine. Balancing our relationship while dealing with crying babies, sleepless nights, and a new lifestyle was not easy.”

Now, the triplets are seven years old, and the family is doing well.

Desiree shares their life on Instagram, where she has 150K followers.

“I never imagined God would use our story to inspire so many people. It has been an incredible experience,” she said.

She also recently revealed that she and Ryan are expecting another baby! Soon, their beautiful family will grow from five to six.
