Moira’s acting career included movies like One More Saturday Night, Of Mice & Men, and Terminator 3. She eventually left acting to focus on family and philanthropy, even joining the board of the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011.

Gary and Moira’s marriage, which has lasted over 40 years, has been a source of strength. Gary often credits their humor and strong bond for helping them through tough times. However, their son’s worsening health, Moira’s recovery, and other family challenges left Gary feeling overwhelmed.

Gary’s father had a stroke around the same time, leaving his mother in need of care. He realized he couldn’t continue his acting career while juggling these responsibilities. “I kind of had my hands full,” he admitted.

While Moira eventually went into remission, Mac’s condition grew worse. The cancer made him increasingly disabled, requiring full-time care. Gary described it as a “full-time job” to find treatments and support for Mac, who eventually became unable to walk.

Earlier this year, Gary’s son Mac passed away at 33 after his long battle with cancer. Despite the heartbreak, Gary found comfort in sharing Mac’s music. Before his passing, Mac recorded an album, Resurrection & Revival: Part 2, which was released on what would have been his 34th birthday.

Mac, a gifted drummer and composer, had a passion for music even as his illness limited his abilities. He created music for films and his father’s charity while also working as the assistant manager of education and outreach for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

In 2021, Gary and his family decided to leave California after decades in Hollywood. They relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, seeking a quieter life and a supportive community. The move also brought them closer to Gary’s band and aligned with their values.

Gary shared that the decision to move was a family choice, and he has found peace in Tennessee. He now focuses on his philanthropic work through the Gary Sinise Foundation, which supports veterans and first responders.
