This Child Star Transformed Her Life After 60 – See Her Stunning New Look!
|After years in the spotlight, this former child star made major changes to live a simpler, happier life. Now 60, she embraces natural aging and has let go of Hollywood’s beauty standards, choosing authenticity over glamor.
A former child star famous for her role in “Little House on the Prairie” has undergone a remarkable transformation. After decades in Hollywood, she left the spotlight and chose a completely different path.
She moved far from Los Angeles to a quiet mountain home, letting go of beauty treatments and embracing her natural self. This change helped her focus on well-being and redefine what aging meant to her.

Born in Los Angeles, she started acting as a toddler, appearing in commercials. At nine, she got her breakthrough as Laura Ingalls Wilder in Little House on the Prairie. The show, set in the Midwest during the 19th century, became a hit in the 1970s, making her a household name.
Her success opened doors to a glamorous life, including appearances on Dancing with the Stars at 47. Reflecting on her early career, she said, “I had an incredible time growing up.”
In the 1980s, she was a regular on red carpets, dating stars like Billy Idol and Rob Lowe. She married actor and director Bo Brinkman in 1988 and had a son. However, their rocky relationship ended in divorce in 1994.
Later, she married actor Bruce Boxleitner. They shared 16 years of marriage and had a son before divorcing in 2011. As she aged, Hollywood’s beauty standards became harder to keep up with, leading her to make choices she later regretted.

Feeling pressure to maintain her appearance, she turned to cosmetic procedures like breast implants, fillers, and Botox. For a while, it seemed necessary, but these treatments took a toll on her.
“I looked in the mirror and saw an overfilled version of myself. My forehead didn’t move,” she admitted. She also dyed her hair red and maintained an unhealthy size two, trying to hold on to youth. But it didn’t feel right. “I was stuck,” she shared.
In 2013, she made a bold decision to leave Los Angeles. She stopped all cosmetic procedures and began a journey to reconnect with her true self.

In 2013, she married actor Timothy Busfield. Together, they moved to Michigan for a quieter life. This shift helped her embrace aging naturally. By 2015, she removed her breast implants and stopped dyeing her hair, letting her natural gray shine.
“In Michigan, I focused on being as healthy as I could,” she explained. She discovered that aging, while challenging, was a blessing. “Yes, I’m aging, but it’s better than the alternative,” she joked.
This change helped her reset her priorities and focus on what mattered most.

After five years in Michigan, the couple moved to a rustic cottage on 14 acres in New York’s Catskill Mountains in 2018. The cottage needed major repairs, but they embraced the work together, creating a home filled with warmth and character.
They called their new home “The Cabbage.” Fixing it up became a rewarding project, deepening their bond and their commitment to a simpler lifestyle. The move also allowed her to grow her own food, raise chickens, and live more self-sufficiently.

Life in the Catskills brought her peace. Her days start early with tea and meditation, followed by tending to her chickens and garden. She enjoys growing vegetables and taking care of her home, even if it means fixing things when they break.
Rejecting the pressure of cosmetic enhancements, she focuses on staying healthy. “I try to eat well and drink plenty of water,” she shared. Letting her gray hair grow naturally has become part of her journey toward authenticity.
This simpler way of living inspired her to create something meaningful for others.

In 2021, she co-founded Modern Prairie, a lifestyle brand for mature women. The brand offers products and workshops that encourage women to embrace aging and live authentically.
She hopes the project helps women support one another through the changes that come with age. Modern Prairie also raises awareness for causes like pancreatic cancer, aligning with Gilbert’s values.
“I finally feel strong in my own accomplishments,” she said, proud of how the brand reflects her life’s journey.

Her relationship with Busfield has been key to her happiness. Living in the mountains brought them closer, strengthening their love. “As I’ve aged, we’ve fallen more in love,” she said, calling it an extraordinary gift.
She also cherishes being a grandmother to nine grandchildren, who bring her immense joy. Despite living far from some of her family, she makes the most of their time together.

Gilbert continues to act occasionally, but her heart lies in her quiet life in the Catskills. Her famous Little House on the Prairie character, Laura Ingalls Wilder, still inspires her today. “That feisty girl is still inside me,” she said.
Even as she ages, she remains spirited and full of life, finding joy in her family, her home, and the simplicity of her daily routine.
