This Little Girl’s Journey to ‘Live Loud’ Is Heartwarming—Thanks to Her Mother’s Powerful Voice

A little girl with a bright smile and love for life has become a symbol of hope and understanding. Her mother is determined to share her story and show that differences can inspire and bring people closer.

In 2016, this mom had her second daughter and got an unexpected diagnosis. What started as a time of uncertainty turned into a journey of discovery. She embraced her daughter’s uniqueness and learned what it truly means to love deeply.

Since then, she has become an advocate, using her story to break stereotypes. Her daughter has taught her to approach life with curiosity and openness—a lesson she wants others to learn too.

In November 2016, the mom welcomed her daughter, Paloma Michaela Giles, nicknamed Pippa. Soon after, doctors told her Pippa had Down syndrome.

The news was shocking, and the parents were uncertain about the future. “I didn’t know what she’d be able to do,” the mom shared in an interview.

She admitted she knew little about Down syndrome back then and was unsure how life would change. Looking back, she said, “It’s amazing how little I knew.” Instead of being scared, she saw her daughter’s birth as a turning point.

“It felt like life began for me. Everything became more colorful and meaningful,” she said.

Pippa’s condition was unexpected but led her mom to rethink love, parenting, and connection. From the start, she noticed misconceptions about Down syndrome and worked to change them.

One big challenge was the belief that people with Down syndrome are always happy. “That’s not true,” the mom said. “Pippa is authentic. When she’s happy, it’s amazing, but she feels all emotions deeply.”

Pippa’s slower speech development sometimes made others underestimate her. “She understands a lot more than she can express,” her mom explained.

To help people understand, the mom became an advocate for inclusion. She encourages other parents to find support and community. “You may feel alone, but when you connect with others, you’ll find joy,” she said.

By sharing Pippa’s story, she hopes to inspire others to embrace differences and see the beauty in them.

Pippa and her mom share a special connection. Through social media, the mom often posts moments from their life, showing love and joy.

On World Down Syndrome Day in 2021, she posted a selfie with Pippa, saying, “When she was born, she taught me to stop looking and truly see.”

The post touched many followers. One commented, “Your daughter is so cute.” Another wrote, “So much love in this picture.”

In October 2023, the mom shared photos with Pippa, writing, “Knowing and loving my daughter takes my breath away.” She added, “There are hard days, but they’re not because of Down syndrome. They’re hard because society doesn’t treat everyone equally.”

She ended by saying, “Pippa loves herself and lives brightly. I’m so grateful to know her.”

Pippa’s spirit has deeply influenced her mom’s view of life. She’s learned to enjoy the little moments and appreciate authenticity and love.

The mom, actress Caterina Scorsone, balances her career and family life. Known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, she is also a devoted mother to three daughters.

Her eldest, Eliza, was born in 2012, followed by Pippa in 2016, and her youngest, Lucky, in 2019. She shares her children with her ex-husband, musician Rob Giles.

The couple divorced in 2020 but remains dedicated to co-parenting. Despite her busy career, Scorsone makes it clear that her role as a mother comes first.
