Wendy Williams Claims She Is Confined in a New York Assisted Living Facility
|Wendy Williams recently opened up about her living situation, revealing how she feels trapped in her current environment. This comes after reports that she has signed a legal document to end her guardianship.

According to TMZ, Wendy Williams shared in a recent interview that her life feels like being a prisoner—not because of a crime, but because of the strict rules placed on her due to her guardianship.
In the documentary TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy, now streaming on Tubi, it’s revealed that Williams lives in an assisted living facility in New York City, confined to a room on the fifth floor. She is only allowed to leave her floor with permission from the staff and has only been outside twice in the last month, for dental appointments.

Williams has limited access to the outside world—she can only make phone calls and cannot receive them. Visitors are mostly banned, and she has no internet access. She spends her time eating in her room and prefers being alone rather than being around other elderly residents who are dealing with severe health issues.
Despite these restrictions, people who have spoken with her, including Harvey Levin of TMZ, say she is coherent, engaged, and seems to be getting back to her old self.

While her legal guardian claims Williams is permanently disabled due to Frontotemporal Dementia, a condition that doesn’t improve, others argue that her mental state has improved significantly, especially since she became sober. Her recent behavior suggests a return to normal, raising questions about the need for such strict control over her life.
In a phone interview with Harvey Levin, Williams was heard saying, “I want my life back. I want my freedom back.” She expressed her desire to be free from her current situation.

Due to filming restrictions, the documentary was recorded from outside her facility, with Williams speaking through a window. Many people watching have questioned why she is being treated this way, with some on social media saying it feels like she’s being held hostage.
In the interview, Williams also spoke about the reason for her guardianship. She said, “I understand it’s about my money.” She explained that her bank account was flagged after large sums of money were withdrawn, leading to the freezing of her account. Williams also revealed that her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., had misused her money without her permission, which contributed to the decision for her account to be frozen.

Although she criticized her son’s actions, Williams still called him a good person, though she said he is “a horrible person to me” because of how he’s treated her. Levin shared that Williams’ son had spent a large amount of her money on a boat rental for his birthday, leading to the bank holding him accountable.
Williams’ niece also weighed in on the situation, suggesting that someone else should take over caring for Williams instead of her son.
In a recent phone interview with Nightline, Williams expressed feeling trapped in her current facility. “I don’t belong here… At all. This is ridiculous,” she said. She also questioned the diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia, which she denies having.

Amid these new revelations, reports indicate that Wendy Williams has begun the process of ending her guardianship. According to Levin, she signed an affidavit requesting the judge to terminate the guardianship, stating that she has regained the ability to function normally.
Williams will soon undergo a new medical evaluation by a doctor chosen by her personal lawyer. If the judge refuses to end the guardianship, her lawyer plans to request a jury trial to determine whether she is mentally fit to regain her freedom.
