You Won’t Believe Why These Twin Grandkids Have Never Met Their Famous Grandad
|This actor, who comes from one of Hollywood’s most famous families, is a National Treasure on screen, but his personal life is far from easy.
The *Family Man* actor, known for buying a plane ticket for his child’s imaginary friend, is now living in a “quiet, horrible nightmare” due to a “hostile environment” caused by his son’s ex-wife. She’s preventing him from meeting his four-year-old twin granddaughters.

When this actor was just 15, he sat in a car with his uncle, one of Hollywood’s top filmmakers, and asked for a chance to act in one of his award-winning films.
“Give me a screen test, I’ll show you acting. There was just silence in the car,” said the star, who’s known for his quirky personality on and off screen.
At 17, the actor took control of his own future and landed a small role in the 1982 film *Fast Times at Ridgemont High*, a beloved coming-of-age movie.
“I was the target of jokes because my name was still Coppola,” says Nicholas Cage, born in 1962 as Nicholas Kim Coppola.
“People would not stop saying things like, ‘I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning,’ because of *Apocalypse Now*… and it made it hard to work. I said, ‘I don’t need this,’ so I changed it to Cage,” the actor explains about dropping his famous surname, Coppola, which connected him to his relative, director Francis Ford Coppola.
When asked why he chose the name Cage, he explains, “It’s a mix of Luke Cage from Marvel comics, a character I liked, also known as Power Man, and John Cage, the avant-garde composer. It says a lot about what I’ve been doing ever since.”
Cage’s first leading role with his new name was in the 1983 film *Valley Girl*, and he says the anonymity he felt helped him feel as though “a weight was lifted off my shoulders.”
“Wow, I really can do this. I felt liberated by that experience,” he recalls. “You can see in *Valley Girl* that I’m free. Whereas in *Fast Times* or even *Rumble Fish*, I felt somewhat stuck,” he says, referring to his role in the 1983 film *Rumble Fish*, which was directed by his uncle.
Over the next several years, Cage became one of Hollywood’s busiest actors, working in back-to-back films and gaining a reputation as one of the most in-demand stars.
In 1988, he earned Golden Globe nominations for his roles in *Moonstruck* with Cher and *Honeymoon in Vegas* with Sarah Jessica Parker.
That same year, Cage met actress Christina Fulton, and in December 1990, they welcomed their first son, Weston Coppola Cage. Weston later appeared as a younger version of his father in the 2014 film *Rage*.
Cage, who won an Oscar for his role in the 1995 film *Leaving Las Vegas*, also shares two other children: a son named Kal-El (named after Superman’s birth name) born in 2005 with his third wife, Alice Kim, and a daughter named August Francesca, born in 2022 with his fifth wife, Riko Shibata.
Cage was previously married to Patricia Arquette (1995 to 2001) and to Lisa Marie Presley (2002), but he filed for divorce from Presley only months later.
In a conversation with *People*, Cage, who starred in *The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent*, shared that family comes “first and foremost” for him.
“There’s no version of Nick Cage in reality that doesn’t want to spend time with his children… There’s no version of Nick Cage that didn’t put family first over career,” says the actor from *Raising Arizona*.
He continues, “I turned down *Lord of the Rings* and I turned down *The Matrix* because I didn’t want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years. I needed to be home with my son Weston, that’s a fact.”
To prove his point, actress Minnie Driver once shared a story: “I was once on a plane with [Nicholas Cage] and his son, and a seat had also been purchased for his son’s imaginary friend.”
Weston Coppola Cage, Cage’s son, has grown into a talented individual. Cage has a very close bond with his children, including his two grandsons, Lucian (born 2014) and Sorin (born 2016), whom Weston shares with his second wife.
“He can do things I dream about doing… compose music, sing, act, sculpt, and cook—and now he is a loving father,” Cage said about Weston, the former lead of two heavy metal bands. “To see my son with my grandson is as close to a sense of blissful completion I’ve ever had.”
Weston, now 33, has been married three times and also has twin daughters, Cyress and Venice, who were born in 2020 with his third ex-wife, Hila Arounian.
But the kids don’t know any members of their famous Hollywood family.
After a bitter divorce in 2021, TMZ reports that Hila was granted “sole legal and physical custody of their twin daughters,” leaving Weston with no visitation rights.
Weston’s mother, Christina, shared the heartbreaking situation with *The U.S. Sun*, explaining that Hila has created a “hostile environment,” which includes a failed attempt in 2023 to secure a restraining order against Christina seeing the children.
“As a classy, respectful Hollywood family, we are appalled and shocked at how Hila could do something like this. It is devastating not to see these kids. Nicolas and I haven’t been able to meet our two beautiful little granddaughters at all since they were born,” Christina says, referring to the “smear campaign” Hila has waged against the family. “We’re in a quiet, horrible nightmare. It’s insane, painful, hurtful, devastating. I have a beautiful relationship with my two little boy grandchildren, and my son has a beautiful relationship with his boys.”
Christina adds, “Not meeting the girls is painful, hurtful, and shocking.”
In response, Hila posted a note on Facebook, defending herself. She claimed that Weston had cheated several times and was “weaponizing influence, wealth,” using the legal system to turn against her.
Hila also refers to Christina as a “sabotaging mother” and, commenting on Weston’s mental health issues and addictions, she claims that Cage is an “enabling father” who has “consistently hindered his progress.”
While Hila does not address the issue of denying the family visitation with the twins, she does state that Weston’s “behavior became a physical threat to our daughters and me, as well as our emotional well-being.”
Despite the ongoing conflict, Christina remains firm, revealing that the Cage/Coppola family isn’t backing down. She says, “In these trying times, our family’s resilience is tested. But we remain committed to overcoming these challenges and restoring our family’s harmony.”
