Emotional Pre-Birth Moment Takes a Drastic Turn: Husband Kisses Wife’s Head, Utters Five Words, Now a Single Father to Quadruplets

Expressing the emotions that accompany the revelation of becoming parents for the first time is a challenging task. Whether we are prospective mothers or fathers, the overwhelming majority of us are elated to learn that we will be welcoming a child.

Naturally, our initial thoughts are filled with hope. We may imagine the appearance of our child, fantasize about the things we will teach or experience with them, and eagerly anticipate the feeling of holding them for the first time.

Regrettably, not every pregnancy unfolds as the joyous experience most of us anticipate. Carlos Morales, hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, is well acquainted with this harsh reality, and his story serves as a poignant illustration of life’s poignant duality.

Carlos and Erica Morales appeared to be a couple perfectly matched. They began their relationship in 2006 after meeting at a Scottsdale, Arizona nightclub. Despite a language barrier—Carlos not speaking English and Erica not speaking Spanish—their mutual attraction was evident.

Rumors suggest that on their first night, Carlos and Erica spent most of their time dancing. When the nightclub closed, Carlos wrote his phone number on a scrap of paper, handing it to Erica. However, she later misplaced the paper, which could have marked the end of their connection. Fate, however, had other plans.

The two reconnected through mutual acquaintances, and it didn’t take long for them to realize the authenticity of their love for each other.

In a sign of dedication, Carlos learned English to communicate effectively with Erica, who, in turn, studied Spanish.

“Take a look at these blessings. I want to give them the greatest kiss even when they scream their brains off.” That’s what I mean…

The couple tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2007 and began their journey to start a family.

Their initial attempt ended tragically with a miscarriage. Following fertility therapy, Erica became pregnant again, and this time, the couple received a major surprise.

During Erica’s first ultrasound, medical professionals revealed that she was not expecting one but four babies!

Over several months, Carlos and Erica prepared to become parents to quadruplets. The strain of carrying four children took a toll on Erica, prompting Carlos to do his best in taking care of her while managing household tasks like cooking and cleaning.

On March 1, 2015, an article was published by ABC15 Arizona. Erica had been hospitalized on January 12, 2015, due to high blood pressure. Before Carlos arrived, she informed him that doctors planned to deliver the babies early due to her ongoing contractions.

Upon Carlos’s arrival, he and Erica captured photos and videos to commemorate the moment. Before Erica entered the delivery room, Carlos kissed her on the cheek and whispered, “Let’s get these babies out.”

Little did he know that this day would profoundly alter his life.

According to Carlos, the quadruplets—three girls and one boy—were delivered via C-section.

“We were so excited to start our family,” Carlos told Yahoo. “And then it all came crashing down.”

Erica went into hypovolemic shock immediately after giving delivery, a disease marked by substantial blood and fluid loss.

Carlos was sitting at his wife’s bedside when the alarm went off and nurses rushed in. While medical personnel attended to his wife, the new father was ordered to wait outside. When a doctor returned an hour later, Carlos was informed that Erica had died.

“How could this have happened?” he wondered. She was alright for a while, then she wasn’t. She was living, then she was gone. I went from having the finest day of my life to having the worst day of my life the next morning. My four children were born, and then my wife died.”

Carlos named his children Carlos Jr., Paisley, and Tracey after a discussion he had with his late wife. “Erica” was the name he gave to his third child.

On January 16, 2015, the bereaved father was permitted to bring two of his children home from the hospital. On March 11, the other two were allowed to return home.

Carlos realized he had to be there for his children despite his enormous sense of loss and sadness at his love’s death. The father-of-four attended baby-care classes, where he learned how to clean his children, feed them when they were hungry, and regulate their sleep routines. He also learnt how to perform CPR.

Sondra Bridges, Erica’s mother, eventually moved in with Carlos to assist him care for her grandkids.

“It’s funny how things turn out,” Sondra commented. “It’s bittersweet, but it’s been phenomenal thanks to God and the outpouring support of the public.” And I’d want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you. We sincerely appreciate all of your help.”
