Vegan vs. BBQ: The Shocking Legal Battle Over Grilled Meat That’s Dividing a Neighborhood!

Noisy neighbors are always hard to deal with.

Cilla Carden knows this well. Her neighbors became such a problem that she took them to the Supreme Court in Australia.

Cilla, a massage therapist from Perth, filed a complaint because her neighbors often played basketball and used their barbecue. She said these activities made it impossible for her to enjoy her backyard.

Sometimes, moving into a new neighborhood can be tough. Some people adjust better than others, but for Cilla, things got difficult when she had issues with her neighbors and their habits.

Instead of just asking them to stop, she turned to the courts for help.

“It’s been devastating,” Cilla said.

Cilla, who is vegan, told 9News in 2019 that the smell of her neighbors’ barbecue and cigarette smoke upset her. She also didn’t like the noise from their children playing basketball.

“They’ve put it there so I smell fish. All I can smell is fish. I can’t enjoy my backyard, I can’t go out there,” she said.

Her complaints eventually led her to take her neighbors to court. However, her claims were dismissed. She tried to appeal to the Supreme Court, but her case was rejected again.

“It’s deliberate, that’s what I told the courts, it’s deliberate,” she said.

A possible solution?

Her neighbors said they had already made changes. A 9News report showed that the barbecue was removed, and the children were told to stop playing basketball.

When news of the court case spread, people started a Facebook event inviting others to a community barbecue to protest against Cilla’s actions. Over 24,000 people said they would attend, but the police stepped in with a warning. Cilla’s lawyer also threatened legal action, and the barbecue was canceled.

Despite the backlash, Cilla’s lawyer clarified that she doesn’t have a problem with people eating meat or using barbecues.

What do you think?

Not everyone agrees with Cilla’s decision to sue her neighbors. What would you have done in her situation?
