Jamie Lee Curtis Donates $1 Million to Fire Relief After Heartbreaking Pacific Palisades Devastation
|Jamie Lee Curtis announced she is donating $1 million to help with fire relief efforts in Los Angeles after becoming emotional over the Pacific Palisades fires.
The 66-year-old actress shared her decision on Instagram, saying she had spoken with Governor Gavin Newsom to decide where the money would have the most impact.
She wrote: “As the fire continues, and firefighters, first responders, and agencies work hard to save lives, my family and I are pledging $1 million from our Family Foundation to support our city, state, and its people. I’ve been in contact with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and Senator Schiff to make sure the funds go where they are needed most.”
Curtis appeared emotional on The Tonight Show on Wednesday as she described the Pacific Palisades fires as “catastrophic.”
She flew to New York to promote her upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, but was deeply affected by news of the fires spreading through her neighborhood.
On the show, Curtis said: “I’m about to cry. It’s heartbreaking. My city, Pacific Palisades, is on fire. I was on a plane last night getting texts about how bad it is. It’s just catastrophic.”
She continued, “This is where I live — the stores I shop in, the schools my kids attended. Many of my friends have lost their homes. It’s awful. I’m going home tomorrow to help my family and friends.”
Curtis also urged others to help. “Support the American Red Cross or any group helping people right now. Donate, give blood, and make sure you have an emergency kit ready in case you ever need it.”
Later, she reflected on her Tonight Show appearance in an Instagram post. “It was hard being far from home during this tragedy, but I appreciated the warmth and support I received from the show,” she said. “Now, I’m heading back to help rebuild and repair our community.”
Curtis shared that her home was safe, but her neighborhood was devastated. “Our home is safe, but many of my neighbors have lost everything. Thank you to the first responders.”
She also posted a video of a church in Pacific Palisades that had burned down. “This church was where I got sober 25 years ago. It’s heartbreaking to see it gone, but we will rebuild.”
Los Angeles is struggling as wildfires rage across the region. Over 100,000 people have been evacuated, and at least five have died. More than 2,000 structures have been destroyed, leaving many with nothing.
The National Guard has been deployed to assist firefighters, who are overwhelmed by the scale of the destruction. Iconic areas like Malibu, Santa Monica, and Runyon Canyon are affected, and Hollywood stars like Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, and Billy Crystal are among those who have lost their homes.
