Mel Gibson Sparks Outrage with Wild Conspiracy Theory After Losing His Malibu Mansion to LA Fires
|Mel Gibson is facing criticism on social media after sharing a conspiracy theory about the Los Angeles wildfires during a live TV appearance.
The 69-year-old actor recently said he lost his Malibu home to the fires. He talked about this during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
On the show Elizabeth Vargas Reports on NewsNation, Gibson explained he was in Austin, Texas, when he heard that his expensive Malibu mansion was completely destroyed. He described the loss as “devastating” and “emotional.”

“I’ve never seen a fire destroy everything like this,” Gibson said. “It’s heartbreaking. You live in a house for years, it holds your memories and belongings. I lived there for about 14 or 15 years, so it was my home.”
Gibson later appeared on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, where he talked about a conspiracy theory he called “insane.”
He said, “I believe they were messing with the water, letting reserves run out for some reason. California does strange things that don’t always make sense.”

Gibson then asked, “Is this being done on purpose? Do they want people to leave the state?”
He admitted he had been thinking up “horrible theories” about the fires. “It just felt odd that there was no water available,” he added.
He continued, “The wind was strong, and there were people ready to start fires. Are they being hired, or doing it on their own? I don’t know, but these people seem well-prepared.”
During their chat, the host, Laura Ingraham, said, “Now we’re hearing about rebuilding. Some are suggesting replacing single-family homes with high-density housing. Climate advocates are pushing for this across the country.”
Many viewers criticized Gibson on social media after his comments.
One person wrote, “Conspiracy theories are his way of staying relevant.” Another said, “Now he’s pretending to be an expert on water reserves.”
A third user tweeted, “I’ll never watch his movies again,” while another simply wrote, “Shameful.”
Wildfires Cause Massive Damage in California
The fires are one of the most destructive and expensive disasters in US history.
At least 16 people have died — 11 in the Eaton Fire and five in the Palisades Fire. Thirteen more people are still missing.
As firefighters work to control the fires, officials have warned the public about safety concerns:
Water Safety: Residents near Pacific Palisades shouldn’t drink tap water due to possible contamination. Bottled water is being handed out at local centers.
Air Quality: People are urged not to use power tools like leaf blowers to avoid breathing in ash and smoke.
Ocean Waters: Swimming or surfing is not allowed from Surfrider Beach to Dockweiler State Beach. Authorities warn that entering the water could make people sick.
Recovering from the fires could cost over $150 billion, according to early estimates from AccuWeather.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible disaster.
