Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Ben Affleck Divorce and How It Changed Her Life
|Jennifer Lopez is opening up like never before about her highly publicized split from Ben Affleck, revealing why she now considers their divorce a turning point in her life.
In a new interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the 55-year-old superstar admitted that while her second romance with Affleck ended in heartbreak, it ultimately helped her grow into a stronger, more self-aware person.
A Love Story That Captivated the World
Lopez and Affleck’s rekindled romance in 2021 was nothing short of a Hollywood fairytale. After nearly two decades apart, the couple reunited, married, and seemed destined for a lasting love story.
But in August 2024, Lopez filed for divorce, bringing an emotional end to their whirlwind second chapter together.
Now, more than a year later, Lopez is looking at the experience in a completely different light.
“It changed me,” she explained. “It didn’t change who I was, but it helped me grow in a way I needed to grow.”
Finding Refuge in Her Work
Lopez revealed that much of the marital strain coincided with her work on Kiss of the Spider Woman, her upcoming film set to premiere October 10. Ironically, Affleck — through his company Artists Equity — served as an executive producer on the project.
“The movie wouldn’t have been made without him,” Lopez admitted. “I told him this was the role I was born to play, and he believed in me. I’ll always give him that credit.”
At the same time, however, Lopez recalled the emotional contrast between her professional life and her personal struggles.
“It was the best and worst of times,” she said. “On set, I was so happy. But at home, things weren’t great. It was hard to reconcile that.”
Despite the difficulties, Lopez says the project became a refuge and a source of strength during one of the most challenging periods of her life.
Embracing Growth and Gratitude
Today, Lopez says she views her divorce as an essential part of her personal evolution.
“I’m a different person than I was last year,” she shared. “This summer was probably the best summer I’ve ever had. I had so much fun. I can enjoy things more now because I’m truly grateful for them.”
She continued:
“The joy is in living in these moments and embracing life — the triumphs and the lessons. The hard times are the lessons, and once you understand that, everything becomes lighter. You can really, really fly. If that hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t understand that.”
Moving Forward With Confidence
As she looks ahead to her new film and a new chapter in life, Lopez says she is at peace with the past and optimistic about the future.
“Kiss of the Spider Woman” premieres in theaters on October 10, marking yet another milestone in Lopez’s storied career.
For her, the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck wasn’t just a loss — it was the start of something greater.
