Alana Honey Boo Boo Thompson Is 21 and All Grown Up — See Her Striking Transformation in Photos
Once uncomfortable with cameras for the wrong reasons, Alana Thompson, now 21, is crafting a life focused on a noble pursuit: saving lives.
Fourteen years ago, a young pageant contestant at just six years old captured the hearts of the nation with a single phrase. Her journey since then has been marked by her mother’s struggles with addiction, substantial financial challenges, a heartbreaking loss, and a vow that reshaped her future.
The transformation is visible in the photos: a little girl adorned with bows and glitter has grown into a young woman in scrubs. However, the narrative behind Alana Thompson’s evolution is far more intricate than any image could portray.

From Pageant Star to Reality TV Sensation

By 2013, she starred in her own TLC reality show, ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,’ alongside her mother June ‘Mama June’ Shannon and her siblings.

By 2017, Alana began making solo media appearances, visiting Extra in Times Square and SiriusXM studios for interviews.

Challenges Behind the Scenes
While Alana continued to appear publicly through 2019, turmoil brewed within her family. Mama June’s addiction worsened during this time, leading her to sell the family home and other possessions.

Additionally, Alana stated that she never received any money from her time on ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’ The consequences of her mother’s addiction greatly impacted Alana’s teenage years.

Dralin faced charges for DUI, evading police, and had outstanding warrants; Alana was not arrested and was later picked up by her sister, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird.

In December 2023, Alana suffered the loss of her sister Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell, who passed away from cancer at the age of 29. Before her death, Anna made Alana promise to pursue a specific goal.
“I always remind myself of what Anna told me: ‘If I die and you’re not in nursing school, I will haunt you,'” Alana recounted in an interview several months after Anna’s death.
This promise became a pivotal moment for Alana. She enrolled in nursing school, setting her sights on becoming a pediatric nurse — a goal she diligently works towards.
Rebuilding Her Life and Moving to Denver
By 2025, Alana’s life had transformed significantly. She moved approximately 1,600 miles away to attend Regis University in Denver, where she aimed to become a pediatric intensive care nurse.
Alana also opened up about a relationship that helped her through the toughest times. She shared on Instagram that she met her boyfriend, Jalen, during a challenging period when her mother’s struggles were at their peak, and she was living with her sister Pumpkin.
Jalen became her primary support, never speaking ill of her mother in her presence, despite witnessing the chaos, and eventually relocated to Colorado to be with Alana.
Simultaneously, Alana began to mend her relationship with Mama June, who had been sober for over five years. Together, they now appear on WE tv’s ‘Mama June: Family Crisis,’ which premiered its seventh season in May 2025.
Alana noted that forgiving her mother was challenging, but she decided to release any expectations and refocused on the fact that, fundamentally, Mama June is still her mother.
A Close Call on the Road
However, the journey to Denver was not without difficulties. In late September 2025, Alana experienced a serious car accident when another driver crashed into her vehicle.
She was taken to the hospital due to back pain and headaches but was eventually released to recover at home, with family visiting from out of town to assist her in obtaining a rental car.
By March 2026, Alana had regained her stability, making a public appearance at SiriusXM studios that highlighted just how far she had distanced herself from the chaos of her earlier years.
