George Clooney remains captivated by his wife, Amal Clooney, the enigmatic and alluring woman who captured his heart, putting an end to his bachelor status despite strong criticism from onlookers.

Regarding his wife, George expressed, “Everything about my wife is kind of enchanting, as I believe everyone has come to realize as they witness her, hear her, and understand what she stands for.” Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2022, the seasoned actor added, “There’s simply no downside to her.”

George Clooney, renowned for his versatile performances in both television and film, is celebrated for his diverse roles in the entertainment industry.

Some may recall the Hollywood heartthrob as a young handyman from the popular sitcom The Facts of Life, which aired from 1979 to 1988. In recent times, he has taken on leading roles in movies such as Ticket to Paradise, Ocean’s Eleven, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2022).

His most significant role, however, came when he found his life partner in the form of the charming Lebanese-British human rights attorney, then known as Amal Alamuddin, in 2013. Within six months of dating, their love story reached a milestone in 2014 with a proposal.

Reflecting on that moment at the age of 61, Clooney shared, “Literally, I dropped it on her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh, my God,’ and ‘Wow!’ We just sat there, and finally I said, ‘Listen, I’m 52, and I’ve been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I have to get an answer out of this or I’m going to throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up!”

The couple exchanged vows in September 2014 at the lavish Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice, Italy, in the presence of a star-studded audience that included Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray.

Amal found herself under intense scrutiny when she entered a relationship with Clooney, becoming a target for unfettered criticism from online trolls. Among her noteworthy clients are Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister of Ukraine, who supported her nation’s integration into the European Union. Amal, currently 45 years old, also represented the UN in 2019.

Despite her impressive achievements, social media users disparage the model, labeling her as “ugly” and a “gawky gargoyle,” overlooking her accomplishments in favor of critiquing her appearance and physique. A Twitter user expressed bewilderment in 2015, stating, “I am completely baffled that when George Clooney finally decides to settle down, he picks Amal Clooney, who looks like an ugly man.”

In September of the same year, ELLE Magazine shared an article titled “54 Moments Amal Clooney Looked Absolutely Gorgeous” on Twitter, sparking mixed reader responses. Some criticized her physique, describing her legs as “shapeless sticks” and deeming her “too thin” and “boney.”

However, amidst the criticism, one person defended the attorney, emphasizing, “Amal Clooney is a knowledgeable & experienced lawyer!! Who cares how she dresses?” Additionally, a prominent news organization overlooked Amal’s unique accomplishments in one instance.

In 2015, the Associated Press faced criticism for referring to Amal, who was then representing Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy, as an “actor’s wife.” The original Tweet stated, “Amal Clooney, actor’s wife, representing Al-Jazeera journalist accused in Egypt of ties to extremists.” The backlash prompted the AP to revise the Tweet to, “Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney criticizes prison terms handed down to three Al-Jazeera English journalists.”

Addressing the situation on BBC via Entertainment Tonight, Amal responded tactfully, saying, “There’s not much I can do to control it except keep going. When people criticize journalism that focuses on the wrong issues, that’s heartening and shows that people expect more from their press.”

In March 2022, Time recognized Amal in a cover feature titled “Women of the Year, 12 Leaders Working Toward a More Equal World.” The article, written by her client Maria Ressa, a Filipino-American journalist and Nobel Peace laureate, was titled “Amal Clooney Won’t Back Down.” Regarding her increased celebrity and criticism, Amal shared, “In terms of an increased public profile, I think all I can do is try to turn the spotlight to what is important. If reporting focuses on irrelevant issues, there’s not much I can do about that. My approach is not to dwell on it and just get on with my work and life, hoping that attitudes will catch up.”

Despite the challenges, Amal’s husband George remains smitten, expressing, “She’s stunning and has a great sense of style — there’s no stylist or anything, she just comes out like that and she looks stunning. And she does it while she’s got 11 cases going — literally. So she’s an amazing woman.”

With their twin daughters Alexander and Ella born in 2017, the couple enjoys time at their waterfront Villa Oleandra in Lake Como, where they first met in 2013. George shared in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Every single day of my life, I just feel lucky. Lucky in my career. Lucky enough to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes in life, it doesn’t happen on your schedule, but you find the person that you were always supposed to be with. That’s how I feel, and I know that’s how Amal feels.” The couple is widely regarded as fortunate. What are your thoughts on the union of George and Amal Clooney?
