At 80, Dolly Parton, Country Music Legend, Dies Details and Family Statement
On August 25, her nephew shared the news of Dolly Parton’s passing through an Instagram video. This announcement came just four days after the legendary singer had spoken about her health challenges while expressing optimism for her future.
The star behind ‘Jolene’ had faced health issues for an extended period. In September 2025, she put her Las Vegas residency on hold after being advised by doctors to undergo multiple medical procedures. By May 2026, she ultimately canceled her planned performances but assured fans that she was making progress and improving.
Only days prior to her death, Parton revealed that some of her health concerns had been overlooked while she cared for her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025.
In the video, Brin Seaver, her nephew, stated, ‘I’m Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am here on behalf of the Parton and Owens families to announce the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, who was Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation, and Gigi to the next.’
‘Dolly had asked me years ago to deliver this announcement. As her head of security for over twenty years, a role I inherited from my father Larry, I’ve often contemplated the weight of this moment, but the reality of it has truly hit me now.’
Seaver continued, ‘It’s an honor to deliver this message, mixed with immense pride and sadness. However, our sorrow is for ourselves, not for Dolly. She lived in the light and is now embraced by Jesus, undoubtedly reunited with Carl, her parents, and many others who cherished her during her life.’
Despite her struggles, Parton remained dedicated to her work, expressing that there were still ‘so many things I want to achieve,’ and she planned to continue working for as long as possible.

Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton was one of twelve children in a low-income household. Her affinity for music began early; she performed at her grandfather’s church, learned the guitar as a child, and composed her first songs by the age of seven.
After completing high school, she relocated to Nashville in 1964 to chase her dreams in the music industry. Her big break arrived when Porter Wagoner invited her to join The Porter Wagoner Show, which introduced her to a broader audience.
By the early 1970s, Parton was carving her own path to stardom. ‘Joshua’ marked her first No. 1 country hit, followed by anthems like ‘Coat of Many Colors’ and ‘Jolene,’ which are now synonymous with her name.
