This year, Stapleton got a special honor that not many people get – he got to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. The big game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs happened this week and officially kicked off on Sunday at the 2023 Super Bowl.
This time, Chris Stapleton was picked to sing the National Anthem before the big event began. He showed up on the field wearing his usual outfit, including black sunglasses.
The singer from Kentucky then sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” for everyone at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and for those watching on TV.
Stapleton joined a group of well-known country singers who have sung the National Anthem at special events, like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, and Mickey Guyton.
“Best Star-Spangled Banner ever. God, Chris Stapleton, you are amazing,” one person tweeted. Another person added, “OK, sing it, Chris Stapleton! This is an excellent version of the national anthem.”
Chris Stapleton didn’t start as a singer; he began as a songwriter. His singing career really took off in 2015 when he performed with Justin Timberlake at the Country Music Awards. They sang “Tennessee Whiskey” and Timberlake’s “Drink You Away” together.
Now, after several years, Stapleton has earned many honors. He has won about 16 CMAs, eight Grammys, and 10 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Chris Stapleton has talked before about how he sings in a way that might not be everyone’s favorite. He once said, “I don’t sing like a typical country singer, but, in the end, I’m just being myself. I’m trying to be the best version of who I am.”
He also mentioned, “Whether it’s playing a song that has blues, R&B, or a really outlaw country feel, I love all kinds of music. I don’t feel limited to playing just one type of song.”
When he sang the Star-Spangled Banner, he really impressed everyone. It brought tears to thousands of eyes.
