Chrissy Metz, 45, Looks Noticeably Different After Quietly Changing Her Mind About One Treatment
The actress, who had previously ruled out weight-loss medication, is now showing noticeable changes. At 45, she reports that the treatment has lessened her ‘food noise,’ improved her mobility, and allowed her to perform in eight Broadway shows each week.
Chrissy Metz is discussing her reasons for changing her perspective on medication after years of struggling with dieting and weight challenges, with her new photos clearly showcasing a shift in her appearance.
In August 2026, the star of ‘This Is Us’ revealed that she had begun a GLP-1 treatment after careful consideration of whether it was right for her. This choice followed years of exploring other avenues without achieving her desired results.
During an interview with People, Metz shared, ‘I just wanted to take care of myself.’ At this age, she recognized that her health issues were becoming more pressing.
She remarked, ‘I’m not getting any younger.’ With perimenopause approaching, she noted a family history of obesity, particularly regarding her father. After trying numerous methods, from diets to therapy, she felt that none had been truly effective for her.

Initially reluctant about the treatment, she remembered thinking, ‘I’m not taking this medication. I don’t want to do this. It’s not going to work for me.’ However, after starting the treatment, her experience exceeded her expectations.
Metz exclaimed, ‘It’s been fantastic!’ She noted that the treatment has enhanced her ability to move, reduced joint pain and inflammation, and made it easier to meet the physical demands of her role as Angélique in Broadway’s ‘& Juliet.’
Her positive medical outcomes further inspired her commitment to continue. Metz explained that her blood work has shown significant improvement, and she is now focused on making healthier choices without allowing the scale to dictate her success.
‘I understand this isn’t a miraculous fix, and I need to concentrate on other changes. So, I’ve been training with a coach to build muscle,’ she highlighted, stating her intention to gauge her progress through her overall well-being rather than a specific weight.
‘I simply want to feel strong and not have my day dictated by the scale showing a few extra pounds,’ she added.
Metz is aware that she may face public scrutiny over her body choices. ‘Listen, when it comes to me, everyone has their judgments,’ she joked.
While people had previously questioned her before starting treatment, she now feels less impacted by such opinions. ‘They don’t influence my life. They aren’t part of my medical history or the hereditary issues my family faces,’ she affirmed.

This reinforces her belief that the decision is entirely hers: ‘My life is mine, and I must do what’s best for me. This includes disregarding negative comments and surrounding myself with supportive individuals. I can’t engage with anything that undermines my happiness.’
In a recent guest appearance on ‘TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,’ Metz discussed one major transformation resulting from her treatment.
She realized the concept of ‘food noise’ only after recognizing how much mental energy food previously consumed in her life. ‘You constantly think about meals, like lunch, but now it’s much quieter,’ she described.
This realization became even clearer during a trip to Italy with friends. ‘I was not preoccupied with food, but instead present with my friends and enjoying the scenery, which was a new experience for me,’ Metz reflected.
Metz noted that her weight struggles began early, sharing during the interview that she has battled with weight issues since age 9 and joined Weight Watchers at 11.
Her current commitments on Broadway have also granted her a fresh perspective on her physical capabilities compared to six months ago.
‘Honestly, I doubt I would have been able to dash around a Broadway stage for eight shows a week six months ago without the benefits of this medication,’ she remarked.
The fast-paced nature of the production has made her feel more physically capable, pushing her beyond her previous experiences with other roles.
‘This is the toughest role I’ve ever taken on, yet it brings me the greatest joy,’ she stated. Her focus on building strength had started before she publicly announced her use of GLP-1.
In an April 2025 interview with a publication, Metz mentioned her growing commitment to weight lifting and strength training, which has always been her preferred form of exercise compared to running.
Her motivation also stems from concerns about how aging could impact her body. ‘I want to age gracefully and remain strong,’ Metz expressed.
At that time, she had not disclosed her use of GLP-1, choosing instead to emphasize the importance of keeping her medication choices private. ‘I believe in destigmatizing any health issue,’ she remarked, advocating for individuals to determine what is best for their own bodies.
Reports indicate that Metz previously lost around 100 pounds after going through a period of depression that resulted in significant weight gain.
Following a panic attack at age 30, she adopted a daily regimen of consuming 2,000 calories and walking for 20 minutes, managing to shed the weight in less than five months.
Her current weight loss related to the GLP-1 treatment is a different statistic. Ro, the digital health company Metz is partnering with, claims on its website that she has dropped 63 pounds while using GLP-1s.
Metz has also recognized the practical support provided by her partnership. ‘I was thrilled that the medication is delivered to your home, and the healthcare team genuinely keeps in touch with you. It can be tough to reach a doctor!’ she noted.
As her weight loss becomes more apparent, social media users have started comparing her current appearance to older photos.
On a Facebook Reel, one user remarked, ‘Good for her! Anything that improves your health is wonderful. She looks fabulous. She’s amazing. Congrats and all the best [sic].’
Another user commented, ‘She never even mentioned how it impacted her weight. I’m glad she’s managing her inflammation, but I’m curious if she’s also shedding pounds??’ A different user noted, ‘Looking forward to seeing your final results. You are a beautiful woman.’
In another Facebook post, one individual pointed out, ‘You can see a change from a few years ago. Slow and steady wins the race.’
Yet another commenter added, ‘Definitely noticed a difference; imagine losing 100 pounds and how incredible that must feel! I’m unsure how that interacts with loose skin nowadays, but it seems Jelly Roll lost weight along with the excess skin [sic]??? 🤔’
Another user shared, ‘Good for her! That’s amazing.’ Images from different stages of Metz’s career demonstrate the changes in her appearance, particularly the latest pictures, which have ignited discussions about her weight loss.
