Fame, Criticism, and Addiction
The young actress who played Juanita Solis on “Desperate Housewives” became well-known for her role as the outspoken daughter of Gabrielle Solis, played by Eva Longoria.

In a 2023 podcast, she shared how tough her time on the show was. During those years, she was often criticized for her weight, and people’s reactions to her character were “shocking.”

When she was younger, she spent hours reading mean comments on YouTube and other sites, which had a serious impact on her. Over time, she started using substances and found herself trapped in a cycle of addiction.

“I didn’t go a day without smoking for about five or six years. It was a big issue, and I didn’t realize how serious it was,” she admitted.

Though she faced several addictions, her biggest problem was with marijuana. She made excuses, telling herself it wasn’t that bad. But sometimes her addiction got so severe she wouldn’t leave her bed and wanted to hide from the world.

The Battle with Eating Disorders
Her addiction was made worse by an eating disorder she had since childhood. Her dependence on marijuana worsened this issue, as she couldn’t eat without smoking first.

If she couldn’t smoke, she sometimes went days without eating, a habit she called “very, very dangerous.” Her addiction didn’t only hurt her health but also her relationships, especially with her mother, who she called her best friend.

Substances became her closest companion, distancing her from everyone around her. “When I realized it was affecting my relationship with my friends, and especially with my mom, I knew I had to change,” she shared.

Choosing Recovery
She decided to get better and, after 248 days sober, described life as “lighter and more colorful.” The actress noted, “Things are easier,” recalling a trip to New York where, for the first time, she wasn’t worried about using substances.

“I wasn’t panicking because I wasn’t tied to a substance. I wasn’t thinking, ‘What if I can’t use this? What if I don’t have my crutch?'”

Now free from these worries, she started helping others facing similar issues, finding strength in sharing her story. “A lot of friends told me they decided to get help because they saw me do it, and it changed my life,” she said.

Inspiration from Her Half-Sister
The actress drew inspiration from her older half-sister, Demi Lovato, who has openly faced her own battles with addiction and mental health. Lovato’s journey, including a near-fatal overdose in 2018, inspired her to be honest about her own struggles.

“She gives me great sister advice, but it’s more powerful to see her in action. I wouldn’t have shared my story if it wasn’t for her,” she said about Lovato.

“Her honesty and bravery are what drive me,” the actress added. In June 2019, a social media user shared a photo that showed the close bond between the half-sisters.

A Heartbreaking Loss
On September 6, the former “Desperate Housewives” star happily announced her pregnancy on Instagram. She posted photos surrounded by loved ones, showing off her baby bump and looking radiant.

Her post read, “Oh Ryan, how I love you. Thank you for making all of my dreams come true. ♥️ Baby Mitchell 10.24.” Lovato, excited to become an aunt, expressed her joy in an interview and shared her excitement online, writing, “My baby sis is having a baby!! I can’t wait to meet your little angel 🥹🖤.”

But tragedy struck soon after. On October 27, the actress shared devastating news on Instagram: she had an emergency C-section, and her daughter, Xiomara, had passed away.

In a heartbreaking post, she wrote, “Ryan and I held our little girl for the first and last time.” The child actress and “Desperate Housewives” star is Madison De La Garza.
