Doctor Warns Kevin Costner: Your Skin Looks Worse Than a ‘Toad’ – Cancer Could Be Next
|Kevin Costner was once one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs, but years of filming in the sun have left the aging actor with concerns about his health. Some people say his skin looks rough and “blotchy,” which a doctor warns could be a sign of cancer. The doctor has cautioned that if Kevin isn’t more careful with his sun exposure, he could face serious health problems.
Kevin Costner has been involved with the TV series *Yellowstone* since 2017, both as a producer and as an actor. The show revolves around the conflicts between ranching families in Yellowstone National Park. Costner, now 69 years old, plays the head of the Dutton family and spends a lot of time on horseback, filming under the intense sun in the show’s fictional Broken Rock Indian Reservation setting.

In June 2024, Kevin Costner, who had recently gone through a divorce, announced he was leaving the show *Yellowstone* to become a homesteader in Arizona. This decision was related to his involvement in *Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1,* a movie he starred in and produced, but which did not do well at the box office.
Talking to his fans on social media, Costner explained, “After a long year and a half of working on *Horizon* and dealing with everything that came with it, as well as thinking about *Yellowstone*, I realized I won’t be able to continue with the show. It was an experience that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you loved it too. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be coming back.”

Fans reacted to Kevin Costner’s announcement with disappointment in the comments on his social media. Some sent him well wishes, while others remarked that he looked “worn out.”
One fan wrote, “John Dutton was the GOAT; an absolute legend. It won’t be the same without you.” Another commented, “I am so heartbroken over this.”
Another fan, noticing that Kevin Costner looks tired, said, “The show definitely won’t be the same without you… Still so handsome, but you look worn out and older.”
This fan isn’t the only one who’s noticed that the *Dances with Wolves* star is looking a bit more weathered.
‘A toad has better skin’
An insider warns that Costner could face a health crisis if he doesn’t take more care when filming under the sun. The source told a news outlet, “Costner’s face is spotty from all the suntanning and probably sunburning he’s been through.”
The insider also mentioned, “Kevin’s forehead has many fine lines and more wrinkles around his eyes. His neck looks even worse. A toad has better skin than Kevin. But he seems unaware of the damage that UV rays can do, which could cause problems later on.”
The source advises the actor to “use sunscreen and cover up properly,” warning that “he’ll regret it if he doesn’t. Skin cancer is a serious issue.”
**Showing ‘Damage’**
Backing up these concerns, Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who doesn’t treat Costner, said the *Field of Dreams* star is already showing signs of “damage.”
Dr. Mirkin recommends that Costner “see a dermatologist every year and have any basal cell skin growths removed before they get worse.”

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD). The AAD says that people with lighter skin tones who don’t often protect their skin from the sun or use tanning beds are at a higher risk of developing skin cancers.
The AAD explains, “Before basal cell carcinoma develops, people with lighter skin tones often notice signs of sun damage on their skin, like age spots, patches of discolored skin, and deep wrinkles. These signs can show up years before the cancer.”
Most skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas, which usually do not spread to other parts of the body and are often not life-threatening, according to Dr. Gabe Mirkin.
However, Dr. Mirkin adds, “Once a person starts developing skin cancers, they usually need to see a dermatologist regularly because new cancers keep appearing.”
If you’re curious about how Kevin Costner’s character leaves *Yellowstone*, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Costner has a “moral death” clause in his contract. This means he has a say in how his character, John Dutton, can or can’t be killed on the show.
At least we know the chances of Costner dying from cancer in real life are low.
